Lili Reinhart & 'Riverdale' Showrunner Discuss That Final Scene of the Season 3 Premiere

Lili Reinhart & 'Riverdale' Showrunner Discuss That Final Scene of the Season 3 Premiere

We pretty sure it wasn’t just us that was 100% confused over the final scene of Riverdale last night.

If you missed the premiere, look away now, if you watched – what the heck was that scene?!

We watched as Betty (Lili Reinhart) watched her mom Alice (Madchen Amick) and sister Polly (Tiera Skovbye) performing a ritual with the Farm, where Polly’s twins floated over a fire. The weird and strange ritual caused Betty to faint – but was that real or just her imagination?

“[When I read the script], I immediately texted [showrunner] Roberto [Aguirre-Sacasa] and was like, ‘Does this show have magic in it now? Is it supernatural now?’ and he said, ‘No, I promise you it’s not,’” Lili shared with TV Guide.

She adds, “I was immediately like, ‘OK, it was a hallucination. Maybe Betty is having a bad reaction to her Adderall and the high stress, or something really weird is going on with the Farm. I think it’s a mix of all of those things.”

Roberto added more about that final scene we watched, saying that “it means that either Betty is having a hallucination, or some very, very, very scary cult members have come to Riverdale, or it means both…”

“We wanted something that was really shocking and disturbing and disorienting. The reason I can’t tell you conclusively what it is, is because that’s the big mystery. I can tell you that it only kind of gets freakier from that moment on.”

Cole Sprouse Says Jughead Will Be A 'Different Character' in 'Riverdale' Season 3

Cole Sprouse Says Jughead Will Be A 'Different Character' in 'Riverdale' Season 3

Cole Sprouse surprised fans today (October 8) with a Reddit AMA to celebrate the upcoming premiere of Riverdale, which happens in just a few days.

The 26-year-old actor, who plays Jughead, opened up about his character changing, his favorite episode and the one thing he wished Jughead did more of in season two. Check it:

On his favorite episode: “The episode we’re finishing now is one that introduces us to the rest of the Jones family, while also being an Archie/Jughead narrative. Always fun getting to work with KJ, nice to finally meet Jug’s momma too.”

On what he wished Jughead did more of in previous seasons: “I do wish I had introduced something I’ve done this season, earlier into the show. Jughead is eating all the time now. Consistently snacking. In episode one, of this season it’s practically every scene…I think if I could go back to season 2, I would have eaten a lot more.”

On Jughead changing in season three: “Jughead was definitely a different character in season 2, and will be in season 3 as well. Every season is a slightly different genre and feeling, and so the characters are re-imagined slightly as well. What I will say about season 1 vs season 2 Jughead is that in season 1, Jug practically had no flaws. He was a quirky, quick-witted, socially averse, young writer and love interest who risks it all for loyalty and love. This character type is often well-loved. Season 2, Jughead is a flawed character. He’s beaten, recruited, told he’s royalty, given power very quickly, brash, hotheaded, outspoken, violent, has a savior complex, and because of this, gets punished (badly). He’s no longer as easily liked, but he’s a much more three dimensional character imo. Season three, after his close call with the grim reaper, he’s calm, loyal, confident, brave, and understanding of his own mistakes. Also he eats all the time, I think you’ll like him.”

Lili Reinhart Spills Major Tea About 'Riverdale' Season 3's Theme: 'It's Kind of A Crisis'

Lili Reinhart Spills Major Tea About 'Riverdale' Season 3's Theme: 'It's Kind of A Crisis'

With just two more days until the season three premiere of Riverdale, we’re getting a ton of new intel about the new season and Lili Reinhart spilled a lot over the weekend at New York Comic Con.

Speaking on a panel with co-stars KJ Apa, Madchen Amick and Luke Perry, the 23-year-old actress opened up about the season’s theme, playing a young Alice Cooper and more. Check it:

On this season’s theme: “I would describe the main mystery in the first half of the season as sort of an epidemic in Riverdale. It involves everyone in the town, and it’s kind of like a crisis…I was nervous [about the first script], and you don’t know why yet. I really had to put myself in kind of a vulnerable state.”

On channeling Madchen Amick to play a young Alice: “I have to say, the makeup and hair process helped a lot. I have very curly, long hair…thinking like Twin Peaks vibes [looks to Madchen]. I do my own makeup on the show this season, so I was looking at pictures of Madchen when she was on Twin Peaks and kind of darkening the eyebrows and using the lip liner. It was really fun. As soon as I had the look going, it really just came naturally. When that episode was over, I was sad, because I missed playing young Alice. I think the episode is going to be a fan favorite.”

On the writers not taking suggestions from fans and sticking to their own instincts: “It would be so much less interesting if everything fans wanted to happen on the show, happened. I feel like the steam would run out really quickly. I think it’s good that the writers kind of continue [to write] what they want. It’s not anyone else’s vision, it’s Robert’s and the writers’. That’s all that matters.”

Riverdale returns Wednesday, October 10th on The CW.
