Sarah Hyland opens up about her show Modern Family ending.
The 30-year-old actress shared that she was a little bummed about how her character Haley wraps on the show.
Sarah expressed during her Cosmo interview that she wishes fans could’ve seen Haley “own her badassery in the fashion world—becoming a badass stylist or brand mogul or anything like that.”
“There are so many amazing mothers who are also hard workers and excel at their jobs and kill it every day in both aspects,” she added. “That would have been a really cool thing to see, especially from someone like Haley.”
Sarah also talked about the uncertainty of her career now that Modern Family is over.
“The thing as an actor, is it’s like, ‘Will I have a job tomorrow?’” she said. “With Modern Family ending, it’s like, Oh, great. I’m never going to work again. I’m going to have to sell everything and live out of a shoebox.”
Tune in to the one hour series finale of Modern Family THIS Wednesday (April 8) at 9pm ET on ABC.
Sarah Hyland indulges herself in her new cover shoot for Cosmopolitan‘s May issue, available on April 7!
Here’s what the Modern Family star had to say to the outlet:
On being herself: “What you see is what you get…” which “is most likely a really annoying, loud, opinionated, brash, most-of-the-time-disgusting human creature.”
On her health issues: “I think a lot of people hide their struggles because they don’t want to be seen as weak. They want to seem like everything’s perfect.”
On meeting her fiance Wells Adams: “It’s the most millennial thing in the entire world. I kind of want to gag at it.”
On knowing Wells Adams was the one: “We were talking about what kinds of weddings we wanted four days after we made things official. I hate that typical cliché of ‘when you know, you know,’ but it’s so f–king true. At least it was for me.”
On being self-aware: “I’m aware of everything I need to work on, and I know the steps to get there.” First step: “Look in the mirror and say, ‘B*tch, you got this.’”

Sarah Hyland was just as shocked as you were when it was revealed that Frank Dunphy, the father of Phil, had died on Modern Family during last night’s (January 15) episode.
Taking to her Instagram Stories, the 29-year-old actress explained why she wasn’t aware of the character’s passing.
“So, I don’t read scripts of episodes of Modern Family that I’m not in, so I just found out that my grandpa’s dead along with all of you,” Sarah shared about the shock of the death.
She added, “I guess I should’ve put a spoiler alert for Grandpa Frank dying, but I was just caught off guard.”
“Like, as his granddaughter, you think I’d be invited to his funeral,” Sarah told her followers. “If it’s any consolation to those who are angry about the spoiler alert, karma hit real fast and Boo just farted in my face and the smell was so bad she had to get off the bed because she couldn’t handle the heat.”
Frank Dunphy was played by Fred Willard, who you might recognize as Mr. Stuffleby from Wizards of Waverly Place.
