Canada's Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir Play Coy When Asked If They're Dating

Canada’s Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir have long been asked if they are a couple off the ice — and their answer to Today will make you even more confused.

During their interview after winning the Ice Dancing gold medal at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, Tessa and Scott didn’t exactly say yes or no about if they were dating.

“Well, that’s such a compliment that you feel that when you watch us skate,” Tessa shared. “We love performing together. We love storytelling, especially with Satine and Christian in the Moulin Rouge! program. That was really close to our hearts. We knew we wanted to skate to that music.”

Scott added, “Guess mission accomplished. That was the story we were telling, so I’m happy that you fell in love with that.”

So, are they dating? We don’t think we’ll ever know!

However, they are talking about retirement now, after becoming the most decorated figure skaters of all time.

“It definitely feels like it [is the end],” Scott says. “I guess that comes with being veterans — we know that we have to let the dust settle before we make that decision. If it is, this is a great way for us to go out.”

“We’re so proud of ourselves. We’re so proud of our team. It feels great to have had the skates that we wanted to have here. It feels right. It feels like a good end.”

Team Canada's Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir 'Toned Down' Their 'Risque' Free Program For The Olympics

Team Canada's Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir 'Toned Down' Their 'Risque' Free Program For The Olympics

Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir are ice dance royalty and their programs are always the kind that you have to stop everything you’re doing and just watch.

Last night, the ice dance team performed their Moulin Rouge “Roxanne” program at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics for the team event — securing that gold medal — but something was a little different about it.

Turns out, Tessa and Scott actually “toned down” the program for the Olympics.

“What it came down to actually was that when we slowed it down and looked on the video, [the lift] wasn’t aesthetically that beautiful of a position, so we wanted to change it, make it a little bit better,” Scott shared with The Star.

The lift has Tessa‘s lower regions right in Scott‘s face. Now, in the modified lift, Tessa only straddles Scott‘s shoulders for a brief moment before dipping one knee down and then dismounting.

“We wanted to make a bit of a different statement, and if that was bringing a certain edge or sexuality or darkness or a contemporary feeling to it, mission accomplished I guess,” Tessa adds.

We left some points on the table level-wise and that we’ll be looking to improve, but for end of October we’re very pleased.”

Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir: Silver at Grand Prix Final 2013

Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir dance across the ice during the 2013 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final held at Marine Messe Fukuoka on Saturday afternoon (December 7) in Fukuoka, Japan.

The 24- and 26-year-old Olympic champs placed second, a point behind friends and Team USA’s Meryl Davis and Charlie White.

“We had a great skate,” Scott shared afterwards. “We’ve been training so well and working so hard all season. We did our technical elements really well at this event. We’ll need to come out with more speed and more emotion heading into the Games and hopefully that can put us on top.”

Tessa added, “We’re right on track. Our approaches are bang on. It’s a process, we still have two more months to train before the Games and we need to trust that process that it will get us where we need to go.”

Tessa and Virtue are also pictured at the 2013 Trophee Eric Bompard ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating held at the Palais Omnisports de Bercy last month.

Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir twirl around the ice rink at the 2013 Trophee Eric Bompard ISU Grand Prix held at the Palais Omnisports de Bercy on Saturday night (November 16) in Paris, France.

The champion ice dancers skated to the top with a score of 180.96 total after a free skate and short program the day before.

Russia’s Elena Ilinykh and Nikita Katsalapov took silver and France’s Nathalie Pechalat and Fabian Bourzat took bronze.

“We felt like it was a strong skate,” Scott shared with press afterwards. “There were some great moments and it was a better skate than at Skate Canada especially the ending. Still we left some points out there. Technically we can’t afford to do those little mistakes.”
