Selena Gomez Calls Her Upcoming Album 'Refreshing & Moody'

Selena Gomez Calls Her Upcoming Album 'Refreshing & Moody'

We may not know when Selena Gomez is dropping her next album, but we do know this about it — it’s “refreshing”.

The “Bad Liar” singer revealed in a new radio interview that she can describe it just three words: “Intentional, refreshing, and moody…but in a good way. I’m all about a good mood, vibey.”

“I’ve been in the studio for a year,” Selena adds. “So I can technically say I have an album, but I don’t know where I want to go with it because of how different everything sounds.”

“I’m not just saying that because I feel like, ‘Oh, that’s exciting!’ Every song I’m setting up to be a single is just completely separate from each other and I love that,” she continued. “So, I don’t know where it’s going to go, but I can say I have an album because it’s a lot of music.”

Selena also chatted about being one of the few who actually do release a full album, instead of just singles.

“I appreciate albums. I get it,” she says. “I know how much music is changing, but you know, I’ve still got my fan base that I want to special things to, music that deserves to be listened to that maybe won’t be on the radio. It will just be for them.”

Bella Thorne Stands Up For Selena Gomez After She's Shamed For Her Sheer Date Night Dress

Bella Thorne Stands Up For Selena Gomez After She's Shamed For Her Sheer Date Night Dress

If it’s anyone who knows what it feels like to be shamed for what they wear, it’s Bella Thorne, and she just simply isn’t having it — not even when it’s not her being shamed.

The Famous in Love actress, who’s pictured out with some friends on Thursday (June 8), stood up for Selena Gomez when she saw some comments from an anti-Selena Instagram account.

The account shamed Selena about her sheer date night dress she wore out with The Weeknd earlier this week.

“That’s not her fault that paps are shooting her on a date,” Bella laid down the truth. “It’s also not her fault that there’s a flash. It’s really not fair to say that.”

The original Instagram post has since been deleted, but as you know, nothing truly dies on the internet. Here’s the screenshot from fans:

Selena Gomez's Hospital Bracelet in 'Bad Liar' Promo Pic is Not Related to Self Harm

Selena Gomez's Hospital Bracelet in 'Bad Liar' Promo Pic is Not Related to Self Harm

When Selena Gomez sat for photographer Petra Collins, the “Bad Liar” shoot was raw and emotional.

The 24-year-old singer is on a bed basked in window light as she looks directly into the camera. (In one shot, here, her wrists are tied at the wrist with a thick, white ribbon.)

Very noticeably on her left wrist is a bright yellow bracelet that reads “Fall Risk” in bold black letters. The bracelet is something hospitals use to alert the staff that a patient is vulnerable to falling.

And it wasn’t just a prop. It was Selena‘s real bracelet from a hospital visit she took to have her lupus treated, just prior to the shoot.

Why didn’t she remove the bracelet?

“It was a very real moment,” Selena told MTV.

Selena says Petra encouraged her to leave it on for the shoot. “She thought it was beautiful … It was just exactly where I was emotionally.”

While some people thought the bracelet was somehow alluding to self harm or suicide, given Selena‘s involvement in the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why which centers around the suicide of a high school sophomore. A project Selena is very passionate about, even thought the content is very dark and difficult.

Turns out, what the bracelet really symbolizes is Selena‘s honesty with her fans and the vulnerability she is willing to show.

The fact she was a fall risk while in the hospital shows a very real side to the serious battle Selena is having with Lupus.

Selena has been very open about how she feels like she can’t hide anything from her fans, as you can hear in this interview with radio host Elvis Duran, listen here.

Selena Gomez's Favorite Song is Still 'Who Says'

Selena Gomez's Favorite Song is Still 'Who Says'

Selena Gomez is more connected with her music than ever.

The 24-year-old “Bad Liar” singer admits she didn’t really know what she was singing about as a young performer.

“I think it’s very relaxed. I’m always honest with you guys, I think in the beginning I don’t really know what a 14 or 15 year old was going to be talking about,” Selena told Elvis Duran and the Morning Show. “There wasn’t enough experience for me to understand what these words I was saying were gonna have meaning or weight. My favorite song, one of the favorite songs that I’ve ever done is still ‘Who Says,’ which I recorded when I was 16. Because of the message, that’s what I felt like I wanted to give my fan base and other than that, I don’t really know what I was doing.”

“I think I was just figuring out my voice and figuring out what was comfortable,” she continued. “It wasn’t really until ‘The Heart Wants What It Wants’ that I had that moment where it clicked, where I realized there was such freedom in me being honest with where I was, because everybody else knew where I was. It was that moment from that point on, now I go in and there’s maybe 2 people in the studio as opposed to 7 people and I’m in there and it’s intimate and I talk about what I want and we create from there.””

As for her older music, Sel said, “It’s like a yearbook. You look at the pictures and you’re like, I thought I looked so good and I did not! So it’s like that feeling a little bit.”

Selena Gomez Teases 'Surprising' Second Single

Selena Gomez Teases 'Surprising' Second Single

Selena Gomez is gearing up to release more new music.

The 24-year-old “Bad Liar” singer recently teased her upcoming second single – and how all of her new stuff is different from what she’s done in the past.

“Because I’ve always wanted to try and have my music be an evolution. Every time I do something I always feel like I’m just starting, it’s not me doing a continuation of something,” Selena told Elvis Duran and the Morning Show. “I think ‘Bad Liar’ is completely separate from the things I did with Revival and then very different from what I did with Kygo, now going into this, the second single, is even more surprising than ‘Bad Liar.’ It’s so fun though because it’s in that place… it’s really exciting.”

Selena Gomez Says It's 'Very Obvious' When She's In Love

Selena Gomez Says It's 'Very Obvious' When She's In Love

Selena Gomez loves to be real when writing songs about her relationships.

The 24-year-old “Bad Liar” songstress recently opened up about songwriting when she’s single compared to when she’s in love (with ahem, boyfriend The Weeknd).

“I love talking, I love talking out a song, I love saying where I am,” Selena told Elvis Duran and the Morning Show. “The funny thing is I was very single when we were working on the song, but it was that feeling that I was missing. I’m very obvious when I have feelings for someone and we were talking about that feeling.”

She continued, “It was so much fun because we sampled one of the greatest bands of all time, and when we got the approval from David Byrne and Talking Heads, it was such a surreal moment. If they didn’t approve it, and we didn’t get their blessing, the song wouldn’t exist. But it was such a cool moment because I think bringing my fan base into, introducing them into that world, that’s what I miss about music a little bit. And it’s different! I think some people like it and I think some people are a little thrown off by it, but that was the goal.”
