Shannon Purser Says This is Why People Love Barb on 'Stranger Things'

Shannon Purser Says This is Why People Love Barb on 'Stranger Things'

Shannon Purser‘s Barb on Stranger Things is an almost universally beloved character.

In a new interview, the 20-year-old actress gets candid about the public’s response to Barb and why she thinks people identified with her character and loved her so much. (#JusticeForBarb didn’t start trending for no reason.)

“It was fascinating to me,” Shannon told Deadline. “It still blows me away that she got the kind of response that she did. A lot of it, I think, is timing.”

Shannon also thinks that people connected with Barb in a special way because she wasn’t “conventional,” or comfortable in social gatherings.

“I think a lot of people definitely relate to the people who are less than conventional — at least by Hollywood standards — people who are an outcast and awkward,” she continued, “because more often than not, we don’t feel like the cool, popular kid who had everything together in high school.”

“Most of us have been a third wheel or have been stuck at a party we didn’t want to be at. I think there’s definitely this fondness about Barb and her situation because we’ve all been there before.”

'Stranger Things' Will Probably Be a 'Four Season Thing,' Director Reveals

'Stranger Things' Will Probably Be a 'Four Season Thing,' Director Reveals

Stranger Things has officially been renewed for a third season — but don’t get too comfortable with the already-beloved Netflix original.

While we knew the show had a set ending, we didn’t realize just how soon it was!

“We’re thinking it will be a four-season thing and then out,” director and writer Ross Duffer told Vulture in a new interview. “We just have to keep adjusting the story.”

After all, there’s only so much this group of strong, unlucky kids can be put through.

“They’re going to have to get the f-k out of this town,” Ross joked. “It’s ridiculous!”

Season 2 premieres on Netflix on October 27. We, for one, cannot wait.

This is the 'Stranger Things' Scene Millie Bobby Brown is Most Proud of

This is the 'Stranger Things' Scene Millie Bobby Brown is Most Proud of

Millie Bobby Brown stole nearly every scene she was in as Eleven in Stranger Things, but there is one scene she is extra proud of.

“There was this scene I believe in episode 4 where I had to be carried down a hallway with a bunch of security guys and I was calling to my papa,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “That was the second scene in my entire career where I had to cry.”

Millie was worried that she wouldn’t be able to cry, so she went into a room by herself and listened to “Hello” by Adele to get herself in the melancholy mood.

“So I sat in the room and started crying and I went out and I gave my phone over to my parents,” she remembered.

Adele always comes through in a pinch.

'Stranger Things' Will Have a Set Ending: 'There is an End to All These Characters'

Stranger Things hasn’t even debuted season 2 yet, but for hard-core fans, it’s tempting to wish the show will go on forever.

Unfortunately (and fortunately, depending on what kind of fan you are) co-star David Harbour revealed in a new interview that it’s not an “open-ended show,” and that it will end in a purposeful way.

“We don’t have an open-ended thing like The Walking Dead,” David told TVLine at Comic-Con. “There is an end to all these characters… We’re going to give you something fun and then we’re going to get out before we’ve worn out our welcome. We have a specific story that we’re going to tell.”

He also revealed that the show runners have told him when they plan for the show to end (though he wouldn’t reveal the information.)

Oftentimes, shows do stay on-air too long because of popular demand and get worse in later seasons. We’re glad this won’t be happening to Stranger Things fans.
