“It’s just the end of my season, not the end of my career,” she shared with press afterwards. “It’s going to help me.”
Sydney added, “”I didn’t run the race I wanted to but now I know what it’s like to be here and go through this kind of thing and have the pressures of sleeping in a dorm room and seeing your competition in the food halls. It’s just practice and getting ready for the future. This wasn’t my time. It just showed that this is not the time for me. Just being here is amazing for me.”

She added, “I’ll be eating junk food the night before a race, before a race, after a race. Of course, there are times that I need to change that. Before my Rio races, I’ll probably be eating salads [laughs], but I love candy so I’m never going to change that.”
Here are five more things you need to know about Sydney:
– She’s the youngest athlete to qualify for the Olympic Track & Field team since 1976. That’s a LONG time!
– She’s cool with not winning a medal: “I don’t have expectations. The races will come, the times will come, the places will come. But just experiencing it and enjoying it while I can, I think that’s the goal.”
– She’s hasn’t lost a school race since 2014. That’s TWO full years!
– Sydney also set a junior world record in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, breaking the previous mark set by Leslie Maxie in 1984.
– Track and running are kind of in her blood. Her brother, Taylor, is a hurdler at the University of Michigan, and her father, Willie, ran in the 1984 Olympic trials, when he made it to semifinals.
