Canada’s Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir have long been asked if they are a couple off the ice — and their answer to Today will make you even more confused.
During their interview after winning the Ice Dancing gold medal at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, Tessa and Scott didn’t exactly say yes or no about if they were dating.
“Well, that’s such a compliment that you feel that when you watch us skate,” Tessa shared. “We love performing together. We love storytelling, especially with Satine and Christian in the Moulin Rouge! program. That was really close to our hearts. We knew we wanted to skate to that music.”
Scott added, “Guess mission accomplished. That was the story we were telling, so I’m happy that you fell in love with that.”
So, are they dating? We don’t think we’ll ever know!
However, they are talking about retirement now, after becoming the most decorated figure skaters of all time.
“It definitely feels like it [is the end],” Scott says. “I guess that comes with being veterans — we know that we have to let the dust settle before we make that decision. If it is, this is a great way for us to go out.”
“We’re so proud of ourselves. We’re so proud of our team. It feels great to have had the skates that we wanted to have here. It feels right. It feels like a good end.”
“Your chemistry’s undeniable. Twitter’s exploding. They want you guys to be a couple.” -@hodakotb
Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir are ice dance royalty and their programs are always the kind that you have to stop everything you’re doing and just watch.
Last night, the ice dance team performed their Moulin Rouge “Roxanne” program at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics for the team event — securing that gold medal — but something was a little different about it.
Turns out, Tessa and Scott actually “toned down” the program for the Olympics.
“What it came down to actually was that when we slowed it down and looked on the video, [the lift] wasn’t aesthetically that beautiful of a position, so we wanted to change it, make it a little bit better,” Scott shared with The Star.
The lift has Tessa‘s lower regions right in Scott‘s face. Now, in the modified lift, Tessa only straddles Scott‘s shoulders for a brief moment before dipping one knee down and then dismounting.
“We wanted to make a bit of a different statement, and if that was bringing a certain edge or sexuality or darkness or a contemporary feeling to it, mission accomplished I guess,” Tessa adds.
Canada’s #1 Ice Dance team has returned to competition with the 2016 Skate Canada International held at Hershey Centre on Friday (October 28) in Mississauga, Canada.
Tessa and Scott lead the short dance competition with USA’s Madison Chock and Evans Bates in 2nd place.
Patrick Chan led the men’s short program, with Olympic champ Yuzuru Hanyu in 4th place. Competition resumes today, starting at 2PM.
“It was a thrill for us to be back out there on the ice, a great start to our season,” Tessa shared with press afterwards. “We’re really looking down the road to PyeongChang and kind of started our journey again today. We left some points on the table level-wise and that we’ll be looking to improve, but for end of October we’re very pleased.”

Determined over the weekend at the 2014 Canadian Tire National Figure Skating Championships held at Canadian Tire Centre over the weekend in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, he’ll be joined by Kevin Reynolds and Liam Firus on the Men’s team.
“Very proud,” Kaetlyn shared after claiming her top spot on the podium. “It’s exactly what I wanted to do in this program. It’s the first time I did an actual clean (long) program in competition so I’m super excited. I’m still in shock.”

“Thank you so much Fukuoka for such a great event! My Japanese fans always put a smile on my face, see you all again at Worlds!” Ashley tweeted afterwards.

The 24- and 26-year-old Olympic champs placed second, a point behind friends and Team USA’s Meryl Davis and Charlie White.
“We had a great skate,” Scott shared afterwards. “We’ve been training so well and working so hard all season. We did our technical elements really well at this event. We’ll need to come out with more speed and more emotion heading into the Games and hopefully that can put us on top.”
Tessa added, “We’re right on track. Our approaches are bang on. It’s a process, we still have two more months to train before the Games and we need to trust that process that it will get us where we need to go.”
