Dylan O'Brien Says His 'Maze Runner' Character Thomas Wouldn't Get A Chance To Compete with Katniss Everdeen

Kaya Scodelario gets in the middle of a cast pic with Dylan O’Brien and Will Poulter during a visit to SiriusXM’s Entertainment Weekly Radio channel during the 2014 San Diego Comic Con held at the Hard Rock Hotel on Friday afternoon (July 25).

The three co-stars met up with The Maze Runner director Wes Ball and author James Dashner for the panel afterwards.

“I don’t know if Thomas would beat Katniss [Everdeen, from The Hunger Games] in a fight or anything. I think she’d take him out with an arrow before he could do anything,” Dylan replied after asked about competing with female-dominated YA movies.

Would anyone else like to see that fight go down?

Dylan O'Brien Talks 'Maze Runner' at Giffoni Film Festival in Italy

Dylan O'Brien Talks 'Maze Runner' at Giffoni Film Festival in Italy

Dylan O’Brien keeps it sharp for the 2014 Giffoni Film Festival Photocall on Monday afternoon (July 21) in Giffoni Valle Piana, Italy.

The 22-year-old actor opened up about his upcoming movie, The Maze Runner with press at a Q&A session.

“I’d like to be brave like Thomas,” he shared about his character.

Dylan added about the upcoming movie, “The film goes in the direction of a dystopian, but it is very apocalyptic. Someone compared it to ‘Lord of the Flies’, but that movie shows the bad, and in my film, the good. I love the books of the saga, I grew up with them. It may sound apocalyptic, but in the end only serves to bring out the way in which people react.”

Psst, expect a new Maze Runner trailer soon!

Dylan O'Brien's Hair Was Originally 'Too MTV' for 'The Maze Runner' Role!

Dylan O'Brien's Hair Was Originally 'Too MTV' for 'The Maze Runner' Role!

We don’t know about you, but we can’t wait for The Maze Runner to come out this fall!

In this recent interview with Collider, star Dylan O’Brien, 22, opened up about how he got cast and how he bonded with his castmates on set. Check it:

On the casting process: “Just like anything, I just auditioned for it. It’s funny. The way Wes [Ball, the director] told me it happened was, at first, I went in on it initially with the casting director, just like everybody. I didn’t hear back for like a month and a half, because Wes was like, ‘His hair is too MTV!’ That’s what he thought, which was so funny. Then he saw a picture of me with more regular hair, the buzzcut or something from Teen Wolf, and he brought me back and it worked. It just ended up working out.”

On his co-star Will Poulter: “That’s Will. He’s my boyfriend here. You have to latch onto somebody while you’re working. It is a little bit like prison, what we do here. It’s actually uncomfortable! We’re so funny. Even tonight, what we’re doing right now. We wrestle. He’s vicious. He’s scowling. He’s the antagonist of the movie and I’m the protagonist. Wes always says we’re opposite sides of the same coin, so we’re always supposed to be butting heads. Even after every take, he’ll go, ‘Are you okay?’ I’ll go, ‘Yeah, are you?’ He’ll go, ‘Yeah, but oh, I hit your knee!’ And I go, ‘Yeah, my knee is fine! But how’s your elbow?’ It’s just hilarious. We’re buddies off screen, as we all are. Having to then just act, like, awful to each other. It’s always weird with acting.”

On stunts: “I’m always game to do it. I have to realize though that there are some things I can’t pull off as well as a stuntman can. There’s a compromise. I have to know sometimes that it’s better to let the stunt guy do it. Like, rolling down a hill. There was a scene where I had to trip and roll down a hill. There’s no way that A) the production was going to let me do that, or B) that I could pull that off take after take. So it’s a compromise with your stuntman. You let him make you look awesome for that frame.”

Don’t forget – The Maze Runner hits theaters on September 19! Watch the first trailer now!
