Laura Marano knows what Noah Centineo is really like.

The 23-year-old actress opened up about her The Perfect Date co-star in a new interview with Composure magazine.

“He’s just the best guy,” Laura said, confirming what Noah’s fans already knew to be true. “We laughed an absurd amount on set. He loves toothpicks like he literally always had them with him, and every time he would use one, he would put on this New York accent and become this character. It was amazing.”

Laura also opened up about her next project, A Cinderella Story: A Christmas Wish, opposite Gregg Sulkin.

“I just finished filming A Cinderella Story: A Christmas Wish, which was so much fun!” she said. “It literally has everything I want in a film: a fairytale, a musical, and Christmas. I have another film in the works, but I can’t quite talk about it yet.”

Did you realize that Zac Efron was once going to star in The Perfect Date, before it was The Perfect Date?!

The Netflix flick is actually based on Steve Bloom‘s “The Stand In” novel and he shared the tidbit in a recent interview with Masslive.

According to the author, the rights to the book were first considered by Warner Bros. and there was definitely a much different cast in mind – and it included Zac and Shia LaBeouf.

“Although a succession of fairly big name actors and directors – including Zac Efron, Shia LaBeouf and Garry Marshall — were attached to the script over the years, it never quite got over the hump and got made,” Steve shared.

Instead, Awesomeness Films picked up the rights and ended up on Netflix, with Noah Centineo, Laura Marano, Odiseas Georgiadis and Camila Mendes in the cast.

The Perfect Date is streaming now on Netflix.

We can not get Laura Marano‘s new song out of our heads!

Wait, you didn’t hear her new song? Did you watch The Perfect Date? If you did, than you DID hear it!

The track, called “A Little Closer” is actually playing in the background during Celia and Brooks’ fake breakup scene.

In a recent interview, Laura revealed that she wrote the track just after filming the flick.

“After I did the movie, I wrote to a producer about a song my friend and I wrote…and the producers loved it. I was so excited and incredibly thankful,” she shared.

The Perfect Date premiered this weekend on Netflix and it’s hard to keep count on just how many times JJJ has tuned in.

Producer Matt Kaplan recently chatted with ET about the flick and opened up about the roles played by Camila Mendes and Laura Marano, Shelby and Celia.

“Laura is Laura. She’s such a charismatic, likable young woman who had all the attributes we were looking for in Celia,” he shared, while talking about all the ways that she was perfect for the part.

“She came in and auditioned and it permeated across the entire film and on set,” he added. “She carries herself so gracefully but has such a light, sarcastic tone that we felt would be a great match with Noah. Obviously, they had already had their relationship [on Austin & Ally] but now, seeing them as grown-ups felt like was a perfect match.”

As for the role of Shelby, Camila pretty much owned the role and was always the first choice for the part, too.

“We needed someone who could hold her own with Laura, and they felt different but both have such strong qualities that she was the perfect casting,” Matt says. “Again, it was a wish list and Camila is a very busy person with Riverdale, so we had to work around schedules but when we were able to make it work, I think everybody — from Chris Nelson, the director, to myself, Noah and Laura — were really excited to have her.”

Noah Centineo and Odiseas Georgiadis are putting Laura Marano‘s dance skills to the test!

The Perfect Date co-stars teamed up for a new video for Netflix.

“You guys might have heard a rumor about Laura: She can’t dance,” Noah says. Laura then pulls dance moves out of a jar as the guys try to guess what she’s doing.

“I love how much of a badass Celia is,” Laura recently told Glamour about her character in the Netflix film. “She’s not your typical female heroine. She’s bitter; she’s sarcastic; she’s a little dark; she’s hilarious—so many things I could tell I was really going to enjoy playing.”

“You have movies that set these unrealistic expectations or standards for women, and a character like Celia is the complete opposite of that,” Laura continued. “The opposite of expectations of what kind of female heroine ‘should’ be in a rom-com. She’s everything contrary to that. What I love about Celia, and The Perfect Date in general, is they take these rom-com stereotypes and turn them on their head.”

“You know something’s special when you can be brutally honest with your partner and still be interested and still have love and trust,” she added. “I think that’s the point of this movie. If you limit yourself to the expectations of others and what you think others want to see, you’re never going to have something genuine with someone—whether it’s a friend or a romantic partner.”

Laura Marano has played a lot of amazing characters in the past, but Celia from The Perfect Date might be one of her favorites.

Speaking with PopSugar in a new interview, the 23-year-old actress revealed she really loves Celia.

“I really love Celia because she breaks the stereotype of what you expect,” Laura shared. “She was just so fun to play.”

She continues, “When you’re filming out of order, it can be a little tough because you’re obviously going through some sort of character arc and you have to figure out where your character is in their journey during whatever scene you’re filming. All that boring actor stuff…but what I loved is, Celia doesn’t have your typical character arc.”

“She doesn’t even really go into that road of ‘I’m really going to try to be this other person to please others.’ She dipped her toes into that trope lightly, but not fully. So I loved the uniqueness of the character.”

Co-star Noah Centineo complimented Laura on her portrayal of Celia, too.

“Yeah, you killed it. I’m serious, man. You really brought a wittiness and intelligence to this character,” he shared. “I think it’s so necessary for people to see that.”

Laura continued, “He is such a lovely person, and I am so happy I got work with him again. You guys are going to love him in this. Honestly, the whole cast is great, and I’m beyond ready for it to be out!”

She also opened up about some of the fun things that she, Noah, Camila Mendes and Odiseas Georgiadis would so when they weren’t filming.

“We actually had such a great dynamic,” Laura shared. “We got really close during the movie. We would talk until the early hours of the morning about life, we walked around at night and snuck into our production office, convinced that it was haunted.”

“We just had so much fun, which was so nice.”
