We’re so excited to see Tom Holland play the iconic role of Spider-Man in his upcoming movie Captain America: Civil War (as well as the planned solo movie) and we can’t wait to see the first look of him in costume.
In the meantime, check out what the 19-year-old actor had to say about the character’s hidden identity in the film.
“I think one of the most interesting things about Peter Parker for us is that he’s the only person in the MCU now that has a secret identity, so we all know who everyone else is. I think it’s quite interesting to go back to that hiding behind a mask,” Tom told Super Hero Hype.
It sounds like the Avengers might not be privy to Peter Parker’s true identity in the film!
When asked about working with the star-studded cast, Tom said “they’re such easy people. They’re lovely people and Robert [Downey Jr] did my first screen test and he was so welcoming. He took me aside and gave me a little advice about the audition.”
If you follow JJJ often, you know that we are big Charlie Rowe fans here so we definitely are a little bummed that he didn’t land the role of Spider-Man, but we are still so excited to see Tom Holland in the upcoming re-boot!
Charlie seems excited for Tom too and just sent out a super supportive tweet for his friend.
“Well done @TomHolland1996, glad that tom’s a mate, pleased for him. I thought I could’ve made quite a good spiderman,” the 19-year-old actor wrote on Twitter.
Charlie is best known for his work in the beloved, but short-lived, Fox series Red Band Society. He was among the four front-runners for the Marvel web-slinger, who will first be seen in Captain America: Civil War.
The rumors are true – Tom Holland will play Spider-Man in the upcoming Marvel movie!
Sony’s Amy Pascal added, “Sony, Marvel, Kevin and I all knew that for Peter Parker, we had to find a vibrant, talented young actor capable of embodying one of the most well-known characters in the world. With Tom, we’ve found the perfect actor to bring Spider-Man’s story into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
The film is set to hit theaters on July 28, 2017. Jon Watts will direct.
