There are five months until Captain America: Civil War hits theaters, which means five months until we can see Tom Holland as Spider-Man in the film.
During a Facebook Q&A, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn opened up about the upcoming film and how amazing Tom is as the web-suited super hero.
“It’s one of the best Marvel movies ever, and I can’t believe what a wonderful job [directors Joe and Anthony Russo] did. And the cast. Oh my God, they’re so good. So it’s an amazing film and people are going to be really excited to see that come summertime,” he shared.
He added about Tom: “Tom Holland is … off-the-charts awesome. Off. The. Charts. Awesome. Off the charts. Truly. Hand to my heart, he’s amazing.”
In case you didn’t know, Tom is set to play the new Spider-Man too!
“I have always been a huge fan of Spider-Man, and growing up, I had countless Spider-Man costumes,” Tom said (via Variety). “Only two years ago did I go to a fancy dress party dressed as Spider-Man. I had this awesome morph suit where you can put your phone on your chest and spiders would crawl across the costume, it was awesome! He’s always been a big part of my life and a big part of boys’ lives because everybody can relate to him.”

Tom Holland poses on the red carpet at the premiere of his new movie In the Heart of the Sea in Madrid, Spain on Thursday (December 3).
The 19-year-old actor was joined at the event by his co-star Chris Hemsworth, who just so happens to be a Marvel superhero as well!
Tom will be introduced into the Marvel universe when he makes his debut as Spider-Man in the upcoming film Captain America: Civil War, due in theaters in May. Watch a video he posted from the red carpet below!
We’re so excited to see Tom Holland play the iconic role of Spider-Man in his upcoming movie Captain America: Civil War (as well as the planned solo movie) and we can’t wait to see the first look of him in costume.
In the meantime, check out what the 19-year-old actor had to say about the character’s hidden identity in the film.
“I think one of the most interesting things about Peter Parker for us is that he’s the only person in the MCU now that has a secret identity, so we all know who everyone else is. I think it’s quite interesting to go back to that hiding behind a mask,” Tom told Super Hero Hype.
It sounds like the Avengers might not be privy to Peter Parker’s true identity in the film!
When asked about working with the star-studded cast, Tom said “they’re such easy people. They’re lovely people and Robert [Downey Jr] did my first screen test and he was so welcoming. He took me aside and gave me a little advice about the audition.”
