If you follow JJJ often, you know that we are big Charlie Rowe fans here so we definitely are a little bummed that he didn’t land the role of Spider-Man, but we are still so excited to see Tom Holland in the upcoming re-boot!
Charlie seems excited for Tom too and just sent out a super supportive tweet for his friend.
“Well done @TomHolland1996, glad that tom’s a mate, pleased for him. I thought I could’ve made quite a good spiderman,” the 19-year-old actor wrote on Twitter.
Charlie is best known for his work in the beloved, but short-lived, Fox series Red Band Society. He was among the four front-runners for the Marvel web-slinger, who will first be seen in Captain America: Civil War.
The rumors are true – Tom Holland will play Spider-Man in the upcoming Marvel movie!
Sony’s Amy Pascal added, “Sony, Marvel, Kevin and I all knew that for Peter Parker, we had to find a vibrant, talented young actor capable of embodying one of the most well-known characters in the world. With Tom, we’ve found the perfect actor to bring Spider-Man’s story into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
The film is set to hit theaters on July 28, 2017. Jon Watts will direct.
Six young actors were flown to Atlanta to meet producers for the role, which will be featured in the upcoming Marvel movie Captain America: Civil War before getting solo films, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Impossible‘s Tom Holland, Boardwalk Empire‘s Charlie Plummer, and two newcomers – Judah Lewis and Matthew Lintz – are also in the running.
