George left the band a few months ago and Union J has since replaced him with Casey Johnson, who seems excited about the group’s new sound and songs.
“I literally can’t wait for you guys to hear the new @UnionJworld sound,” Casey wrote on Twitter earlier this week.

Union J is hitting the road!
The guys — JJ Hamblett, Josh Cuthbert, Jaymi Hensley, and new member Casey Johnson — will be going on a mini-tour starting in September.
“TOUR TOUR TOUR!!!!!! Grab your tickets ASAP. So excited for this, it’s going to be insane,” Union J wrote on Instagram.
Recently, ex-The Wanted singer Nathan Sykes expressed his opinions about adding Casey to the band.
“If you’re going to replace someone try to find someone better. I don’t think Union J quite succeeded in doing that,” he shared with Metro (via Digital Spy).
Nathan added, “If The Wanted were to replace me, if I was them I’d try to find someone better. If they did it as badly as Union J I’d find it quite funny.”

Union J are a quartet once again!
The guys — JJ Hamblett, Josh Cuthbert and Jaymi Hensley — have introduced their new member, Stereo Kicks’ Casey Johnson!
“Union J were always a much bigger band than Stereo Kicks,” Casey shared with The Sun during the reveal. “These guys are more mature and I feel already that this is the type of music I want to do.”
Casey‘s addition comes after former member George Shelley left the band earlier this year.
“George was in a position where he did the jungle, he came off it and his head space was different to ours,” Josh shared. “Using a sporting analogy, he wanted to turn up to the big matches but not to training. I’m not going to lose any sleep over him not being in the band.”
It’s been almost two months since George Shelley left Union J and the band is opening up about what’s next for them.
“We’ve started in the studio and are working with some great writers. We are going over to America next month to record and just basically to try and find the right song to release,” JJ Hamblett, 27, shared.
He added, “We’ve got some really exciting news coming out next month but I can’t give it away. But you’ll know very, very shortly. It’s just something we didn’t expect. We’ve got to think like Justin Bieber. He came back and nobody can deny that they love those songs and that’s what we want to do.”
And unlike Zayn Malik‘s split from One Direction, the band has kept in touch and spoke with George.
“I suppose he’s doing his own thing. We have spoken and he’s doing fine,” JJ added.
Nathan Sykes pulls a fan into a hug outside his hotel on Wednesday afternoon (March 30) in Dublin, Ireland.
The 22-year-old singer chatted with fans after picking up a warm cup of coffee ahead of his concert on the Get Weird tour with Little Mix.
Speaking with Digital Spy recently, Nathan opened up about the dim future of Union J after George Shelley left the band.
“I don’t think it’ll work,” he shared. “George was a really strong part of the band. When a band has a lot of success with a certain amount of members, to suddenly introduce another is just a bit strange.”
JJJ Note: As of this moment, the band isn’t replacing George at all. They will remain a trio until the band makes an announcement.
JJ Hamblett looks pretty dapper while heading out to dinner on Saturday night (March 12) in London, England.
The 27-year-old Union J member walked hand-in-hand alongside his model girlfriend Caterina Lopez.
It was recently announced that his band mate George Shelley left the group.
“Firstly I want to wish George the best of luck on the future, and I will miss him!” JJ tweeted. “Although George decided he no longer wanted to be a part of Union J‘s journey, as a 3 we feel we are just getting started and owe it all to you guys to continue and want to continue, I promise you of this!”
It’s official — George Shelley has officially left Union J.
The remaining members of the band — JJ Hamblett, Josh Cuthbert and Jaymi Hensley — all released a statement on the band’s Instagram about the split.
“In 2012, we started something that has been the centre of our lives ever since, a band and project that is now family to us - Union J. Through two incredible albums, successful tours and a lot of fun along the way, the fours of us have all enjoyed this incredible journey. But with time, comes change and difference of aspirations,” they wrote.
The band added, “So, as we prepare to go back into the studio to work on new material, George will not be be continuing on this journey with us. George will now be following his own path and career no longer a part of Union J. This is a mutual decision between the four of us, and we will always remain close.”
