The 'Wizards of Waverly Place' Creator Wants to Create a PG-13 'High-Budget' Reunion Movie

The 'Wizards of Waverly Place' Creator Wants to Create a PG-13 'High-Budget' Reunion Movie

Wizards of Waverly Place has been off our screens for over five years, but creator Todd J. Greenwald isn’t ready to say goodbye yet.

The mastermind behind the series wants to create both a prequel series with new actors and a theatrical movie with the Selena Gomez, David Henrie, Jake T. Austin, and the rest of the cast.

“It would have to be a full-fledged theatrical,” he told International Business Times.

“Definitely mature,” Todd continued. “Definitely just not the same ‘Wizards’ we’re used to. It’s the same characters, but it’s much more high-budget, mature and that would be cool. Definitely PG-13.”

As for the plot, it would “have to be some big, end-of-the-universe thing that Alex and Justin would be saving, or not. But playing with the time-space continuum is always fun, but treacherous. Just to see them older.”

He also has some questions he wants answered: “Does Alex have kids or not? Is Justin still at WizTech? Is Max still at the sub station? Do we even age it up and say that Jerry and Theresa got a divorce? You can go there.”

We’re definitely on-board to find out the answer to all of these questions.

Your move, Selena!

'Wizards of Waverly Place' Showrunner Didn't Like This One Episode of the Series

'Wizards of Waverly Place' Showrunner Didn't Like This One Episode of the Series

We all have our favorite episodes of Wizards of Waverly Place (for JJJ it was “Justin’s New Girlfriend”), and we all have the ones that didn’t impress us much.

The one that showrunner Todd Greenwald didn’t love? “Make It Happen”.

If you don’t remember, this was the episode where the three Russo kids were tasked with choosing a backup career if they didn’t win the family wizard competition.

Alex decided on becoming a professional drummer, much to the dismay of her father.

“I’d like to forget that episode happened,” he shared in a recent interview. “That was weird.”

He adds, “I just think it was some people from above wanting to jump in on the Disney musical thing, and it was sort of a peg in a round hole, if you ask me. It made for a memorable, random episode. There were definitely some random, memorable episodes. That was one of them.”

He’s right though, the episode did seem just a little out of place.

“Of course they’re going to throw you a catchy song,” Todd continued. “But, I don’t know what’s so amazing about watching a girl playing a wizard playing the drums, singing a catchy song. It has nothing to do with Wizards. Zero. That was the most un-Wizards-like episode. There were a few, but that was weird.”

This is What Happened to Popular Girl Gigi on 'Wizards of Waverly Place'

This is What Happened to Popular Girl Gigi on 'Wizards of Waverly Place'

In the early days of Wizards of Waverly Place, Alex Russo (Selena Gomez) often had to grapple with her bully, the popular Gigi (Skyler Samuels).

However, as many viewers have noticed, Gigi and her minions were phased out by episode four, never to be seen again.

So what happened to the notorious popular girls?

“I’m going to say vaguely that Alex had something to do with her disappearance and the minions, that we never saw,” creator Todd Greenwald revealed to International Business Times.

“Maybe they’re little figurines on her desk somewhere that we never knew about and she’d keep them like fish.”

So maybe they were never gone after all, just hidden in Alex’s desk drawer!

Wow. Everything really is not as it seems.

Dylan O'Brien Once Auditioned For 'Wizards of Waverly Place'

Dylan O'Brien Once Auditioned For 'Wizards of Waverly Place'

Dylan O’Brien is Stiles.

The 26-year-old actor has been Mieczyslaw “Stiles” Stilinski on Teen Wolf since season one, episode one — and we couldn’t imagine anyone else as Stiles, nor could we even think of Dylan not on Teen Wolf.

However, Dylan revealed in his new Vulture feature that he once auditioned for Wizards of Waverly Place, and all of the sudden our worlds are shook about it.

It’s not clear which role he went out for, but let’s just imagine this here — he’s around the same age as David Henrie, which means Justin Russo.

In another time and place we could’ve had Dylan and Selena Gomez as on-screen siblings. Just think of that!

However, it was always Teen Wolf that had his heart and it’s a blessing that he didn’t nab a role on Wizards.

“That show really became my school in a lot of ways,” Dylan shared of Teen Wolf. “I never took a second on set for granted.”

Wizards of Waverly Place will forever be one of our favorite shows on Disney Channel, and the character of Zeke, Justin Russo’s best friend, was partly why.

You probably remember Dan Benson as being the character to ALWAYS make you laugh — and now, he’s going to make your jaw drop because just like The Suite Life of Deck‘s Matthew Timmons he got insanely hot!

We’re not even lying.

JJJ stalked Dan‘s Twitter and Instagram to see what he’s doing now and were met with majorly hunky pics.

Selena Gomez Has Her 'Wizards of Waverly Place' Wand Framed

Selena Gomez Has Her 'Wizards of Waverly Place' Wand Framed

Selena Gomez will always be sentimental about Alex Russo and Wizards of Waverly Place.

The “Bad Liar” singer answered one of actress Jenna Ortega‘s questions during her recent stop at Radio Disney and it will give you all the feels.

Jenna, as a huge fan of WOWP, had to know if Selena ever still pretended to be Alex Russo when no one’s watching? And she kind of does!

“I think I am Alex Russo I think that’s the thing,” Selena shared. “You know what I do miss though? I do miss having my wand in my boots because that’s what I always used to carry.”

She confessed that she did keep her wand from the set and it’s framed!

“People don’t know that, but I actually have it framed and it’s really cute,” Selena says. “And I’m very emotional when I talk about it, so I’m not going to get too emotional.”

Jake T. Austin Is Definitely Down For A 'Wizards of Waverly Place' Reunion

Jake T. Austin Is Definitely Down For A 'Wizards of Waverly Place' Reunion

Wizards of Waverly Place will always be one of JJJ’s favorite Disney Channel shows ever — so we’re insanely excited to hear that Jake T. Austin would definitely be on board for a reunion.

While promoting his new flick, The Emoji Movie, Jake opened up about a possible reunion, or even a spinoff of the original series.

“Let’s do the reunion. Let’s do it for the fans,” he said to the cameras, sending a message to co-star Selena Gomez.

Last month, Selena shot down the idea of a reunion, but didn’t say no in bringing a spinoff to the channel for a chance to be a producer on it.

We hope this gets talks going again!

Jake is also pictured out at the Dunkirk premiere in New York City on Tuesday night (July 18).
