There are a lot of characters expected to return to the series, including Nina Dobrev as Elena.
“I did work with her in one scene. It was great having her back,” Zach told TV Guide. “We remained friends over the years. It was just really nice to have everyone back together to say the final farewell. It was interesting to look around the group thinking about how much we’ve all grown, physically and spiritually. It was very fitting, I think, to have her back.”
As for his character Matt’s role in the finale, Zach said, “Mystic Falls lives to see another day, so don’t rule out a spin-off. Matt’s still the sheriff. And everyone lives happily ever after.”
“I think it’s very interesting for Matt looking back at … all those moments where he felt like an outcast, maybe, or kind of a charity case by the Gilberts who took it upon themselves to take him in,” he shared.
“I think that’s also why he feels so sure about what he’s doing,” Zach adds.
“Being sheriff and following through on this compulsion where he’s always felt this need to protect the town and do what was right and wondering to himself, ‘Why? Why is he doing this?” I think it’s nice to finally be reassured that what he’s been doing is for the right reasons.”
He added about how Matt will play a part in stopping Cade: “He’s very integral in the plans to kill Cade. And also, Matt physically threatens Cade. He’s still a force to be reckoned with, whether he be a human or not.”

During the Comic-Con weekend, a new video highlighting The Vampire Diaries villains was posted on YouTube! The video shows some of the past villains, and teases the new villain “Evil Herself.” While we don’t get a real good glimpse, there is a scary bloody hand featured in the video! Watch below…
Several things were revealed about Caroline and Bonnie in the upcoming season on the panel: Caroline’s kids will play a part in Season 8, fairly early on, however, her love life isn’t front and center; Bonnie is “crumbling” and “at ground zero”; and mind control is happening between Damon and Enzo.
There’s another Vampire Diaries & Originals crossover on the way!
Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Finn (Caspar Zafer) will head to Mystic Falls and run into a familiar face in the April 8 episode of The Originals, titled “Behind the Black Horizon.”
“[I] know the fans — they love the shared universe and they love to see that these characters still interact in the same big wide world and if Matt (Zach Roerig) is interacting with Elijah — that’s a reminder that these characters still function in the same place,” executive producer Michael Narducci told Access Hollywood. “For me, as a creator, what’s really exciting is that Matt was the one who killed Finn in Season 3 with a white oak stake and so now it’s Finn, who has recently been brought back through magic to rejoin his family, [who] is coming face-to-face with the guy who killed him. And I think that that’s interesting and it’s also interesting as a reminder that even though he’s just a human being, Matt Donovan’s a tough guy who, when push comes to shove, given the right weapons, can even take down an Original, so I thought that was pretty cool.”
WHAT DO YOU THINK of Matt Donovan showing up on The Originals?
