Ice Dancer Alex Shibutani Performs With Stomach Illness; Still Wows The Crowd With Sister Maia

Alex Shibutani won’t let a stomach virus keep him down.

This past weekend, the 24-year-old ice dancer and his partner, sister Maia, competed at the 2015 Grand Prix Final in Barcelona, Spain, where he was battling a stomach illness.

However, he skated anyhow and the duo placed 4th, just missing the podium.

“After knowing Alex my entire life, it’s amazing that he can still surprise and inspire me. So proud of how resilient and determined he was. Thank you for all of the support!” Maia shared on Instagram after the competition.

Alex added, “Motivation gets you started. Heart keeps you going. Thank you, Maia. Thank you to our parents, coaches, friends, and supporters. The journey continues.”
