Emma Watson Speaks About Gender Equality in the Arts on International Women's Day
Emma Watson makes a speech at the Empire State Building in honor of International Women’s Day on Tuesday (March 8) in New York City.
The 25-year-old actress was celebrating the lighting of the iconic building in “HeForShe Magenta” in honor of the special day.
That same day, Emma joined UN Women for the launch of HeForShe Arts week with actor Forest Whitaker.
Emma spoke about the power the arts have to support social change, and praised films that “challenge the notion that men don’t have tear ducts.”
“They make the roles that each of us get to play more complex, more whole, more real, more authentic, they make our jobs more interesting and useful,” Emma said (via Buzzfeed). “I think gender equality does that.”
FYI: Emma is wearing a Narciso Rodriguez dress, Ileana Makri and John Hardy jewelry and Gianvito Rossi pumps.
