Hailee Steinfeld Got a Record Deal Thanks to a Dinner Party

Hailee Steinfeld waves to some fans while heading inside a taping of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday (November 1) in Hollywood.

The 19-year-old actress was making an appearance on the show to talk about her upcoming flick The Edge of Seventeen.

During the show, Hailee opened up about the unusual way she ended up signing her record deal.

“I went to a dinner in New York City…and the person that was to my mom’s right was a man named Charlie Walk and we had no idea who he was. We got to talking and within 20 minutes he had headphones in and he was listening to music that I had done on my own…and he signed me!” she explained of meeting the Republic Records president.
