Katie Leclerc Calls Working on 'Switched at Birth' Unbelievable
Katie Leclerc is just like all of us — she doesn’t want to say goodbye to Switched at Birth.
“UN-Believable!!” she says about working on the show. “I hit the lotto with Switched at Birth.”
When JJJ brought up a possible reunion one day, Katie was ready to start tomorrow!
“Honestly, I love that our show was never afraid to tackle really though issues,” she adds, looking back on the five seasons she starred as Daphne Vasquez.
One storyline that she would’ve loved to expand on was Emmett’s overdose: “He OD’d because he felt horrible and he needed help. I think we could have expanded on that a bit farther and had a commentary to kids about how it’s ok to feel weird but not ok to hurt yourself.”

JJJ: Looking back, what were some of the episodes you really loved?
KL: I love the special episodes that we did. The “what if?” episode, the dancing episode, but most of all my favorite was the all ASL episode. We all worked really hard on it and I think the result is really special.
JJJ: Are there any mementos that you took from the set?
KL: I have a few squirrels from the Kennish Kitchen (it’s all about the squirrels!)
JJJ: How did you say goodbye to everyone during the last days of filming?
KL: With tears in my eyes! We had such an amazing time and the crew as well as the cast and directors and producers became family. Most of the really special ones I still see so it’s not this terrible loss, it’s just we don’t see each other for 13 hours a day anymore.
JJJ: What are you most grateful for from this show?
KL: That I feel like we were entertaining as well as educational. We discussed so many issues that could be really uncomfortable. Bay said something really cool in the last few episodes “People want to say the right thing, they just don’t know how.” (Something like that) We helped some people figure out how.
JJJ: We’re saying goodbye to Daphne and Bay. What kind of advice would you have for them going into the future?
KL: It’s amazing to see how far they have come as characters and as sisters. I would just tell them to always remember to stay together.
