Ariana Grande's New Bee Tattoo for Manchester is So Powerful; See What It Symbolizes
Ariana Grande has not only helped raised millions of dollars for the victims of the 2017 Manchester Bombing, she has permanently bonded with the city by reportedly getting a tattoo of a bee.
Why a bee?
Because it is the city of Manchester’s most powerful and representative symbol.
“It’s the symbol of the industrial revolution in Manchester when the cotton mills started up back in the 1800s,” British tattoo artist Dan Leicester explains to MTV. “The cotton mills were called hives and everyone that came to them were like the worker bees, and now it’s become a symbol for the city. You can’t walk around without seeing it.”
Immediately after the bombing, tattoo artist Sam Barber had the idea to launch a tattoo fundraising campaign that would both raise money and unite the people who were inked.
People in England, Europe and around the world have been inked with a bee to show their support.
The Manchester Tattoo Appeal has raised over $500,000, as participating tattoo artists donate their time, while the price of the tattoo is donated directly to the fund.
