Lauren Jauregui's First Live Performance with Halsey -- Video Inside
When two big artists collaborate on a song, you never know if or when you’ll ever actually get both on stage to perform it together. But it happened this morning when Lauren Jauregui joined Halsey on stage for a surprise duet of “Strangers” on The Today Show this morning.
The performance was intense and perfect for Pride Month! Standing back-to-back, the two singers mirrored the tension of the track which Halsey calls “a love song for the LGBTQ community.”
Halfway through the song, Lauren and Halsey turn should-to-shoulder and eventually face-to-face. After the song, they embrace in the happiest hug.
Halsey has said she’s so grateful to have the Fifth Harmony singer duet on the track, which is about two women who are struggling with their love for each other.
“I just love that Lauren and I are two women who have a mainstream pop presence doing a love song for the LGBTQ community,” Halsey told the Zach Sang Show. “It’s unheard of. It’s very rare to see it from a female perspective.”
She continued, “I was thinking to myself, if I want this song to be believable, it needs to be real,” she added. “So I’m not going to put a girl on the song to sing who’s straight. I’m just not going to do it. So I reached out to Lauren, and she came in and she cut the vocal and it sounds awesome.”
