SYTYCD Alum Lindsay Arnold Shares 5 Tips That Will Help You Nail That SYTYCD Audition

Every dancer who goes out for So You Think You Can Dance never fails to impress — we mean, they’re amazing.

With the show premiering NEXT WEEK, we called up one of our fave dancers Lindsay Arnold, who competed on season 9 of the series, for some tips.

Lindsay knows exactly what it’s like to audition for the show and shared her top 5 tips on how you can wow the judges and not have a heart attack afterwards (like JJJ definitely would).

Her first tip? “Be yourself.”

“I cannot express how important it is to be true to who you are!” Lindsay says. “Don’t worry about pleasing others just do what makes you happy and be comfortable in your own skin.”

  • Have confidence. If you believe in yourself and are proud of your abilities others will recognize that. In my personal experience, I wasn’t always the most gifted dancer but I had confidence in myself no matter what anyone else said about me and that’s what got me to where I am today
  • Learn to accept rejection. It is so hard as a dancer to constantly be compared to others whether it’s in class, at an audition, and sometimes (in my case) on television but one of the best things I learned was that being turned away or rejected does not mean that you aren’t good enough! I learned to recognize that everything happens for a reason and just because I didn’t make it through an audition or book the job I wanted doesn’t mean that there isn’t something else out there for me.
  • Never give up. It’s so easy to lose sight in why you wanted to pursue your dreams and to think that they are impossible but don’t do it!! Things might not always go the way you planned but they will always happen the way they are meant to be. If you consistently pursue and work towards your dreams through all the hard times I promise that something good will come of it.
  • Have fun!! Remember what dance makes you feel and enjoy every second of it. Stress can take away happiness and turn you into someone that you are not so don’t let it get the best of you and enjoy every moment.
