Lucy Hale Tweets Apology For Posting Fat-Shaming Comment About Herself

Pretty Little Liars actress Lucy Hale found herself embedded in some controversy this week when she Instagrammed a sweet photo with her dad for Father’s Day.

The controversy came not in the photo, nor the sweet caption, “You taught me to have soul. I love you daddy.”

The problem was a comment she made below, which many Instagram followers took issue with: “ugh I was so fat.”

Users were quick to point out that she is not, not has she ever been, fat. And moreover, that she has fans looking up to her who deserve to know that many body types are beautiful.

Now, Lucy is addressing the backlash, tweeting out her apologies online.

“Sometimes I forget that people are watching everything I do and I say things I don’t mean,” she wrote. “I’m extremely sorry if my comment about my weight offended anyone. Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy. I know people look up to me and I should be way more aware of what I say sometimes. Thanks for all the love and support. Hope y’all can forgive me!”

Pretty Little Liars show-runner I. Marlene King, for one, forgives her, tweeting: “You are a class act. Love you!” in response.

We’re glad that Lucy recognized why her fans were upset, and we know she will learn from the setback.
