Pretty Little Liars' Janel Parrish Actually Auditioned For This Character (Exclusive)

We know that pretty much all the main cast of Pretty Little Liars didn’t audition for the roles they ended up with — and Janel Parrish didn’t either.

JJJ spoke to the star, who plays Mona Vanderwaal on the show, and she revealed that she didn’t go out for Mona at all — it was actually Spencer Hastings!

“I got a few callbacks and then didn’t book it,” she remembers. “I remember being super bummed because I loved the script. But, about a month later they called me in for Mona and that was it.”

Even though she wasn’t cast as Spencer, Janel isn’t upset at all, because Mona is perfect for her.

“I’m super happy about that, though,” she adds. “I fell in love with playing Mona.”
