Madelaine Petsch Dishes On Perfecting the Villain in Cheryl Blossom

Riverdale‘s Cheryl Blossom has already dethroned all our favorite TV villains as our absolute villain — and it’s all thanks to actress Madelaine Petsch.

Speaking with High Snobiety, Madelaine opened up on how she perfected Cheryl’s villainious ways.

“They [villains] have to be believable and I think they have to have a justifiable reason for why they do what they do,” she shared. “I think that’s why people love to hate Cheryl.”

Madelaine adds, “She’s got so much going on behind the curtain, but I think people understand the faade that she puts up. It’s very important for a villain to be liked and appreciated.

She also chatted about how the role of a villain has evolved over the years, and how it helped to shape Cheryl.

“Social media has played a huge part in that,” she says. “Look at Heathers versus Mean Girls. Gossip Girl as well. They’re all very much the same, if you really look at it.”

“The fashion has evolved, but I think all mean girls have dope style and that’s very interesting,” Madelaine shared. “But they do all share similar characteristics no matter what genre or generation they’re placed in.”
