'Flash' Star Candice Patton Dishes On Iris West's Fearlessness

Iris West’s fearlessness is just one of the things we love about her on The Flash.

Candice Patton, who plays the character on TV opened up to NKD mag‘s August issue about playing the iconic character.

“I was thrilled to be going in for a lead female role that isn’t traditionally played by an African-American,” Candice shared, remembering her original audition. “And deep down, I always wanted to be a part of some superhero show or film.”

“Iris is visibly fearless, even when she’s vulnerable,” she adds. “Strong women are capable of experiencing fear, but then choose to find the strength to move forward. That’ s what Iris does.”

On top of all those qualities, Iris is also incredibly loyal, which Candice says is probably the best part of her.

“She’ s loyal to Barry, to Wally, to her dad, and Team Flash,” Candice continues. “She doesn’t have powers but that doesn’t get in the way of her trying to contribute. I think she’s a character that both men and women can admire.”

The Flash returns this fall on The CW.
