'Riverdale' Showrunner Says Archie Suffered From PTSD in Season 2

KJ Apa‘s Archie Andrews is battling more than he’s letting on in Riverdale‘s season two.

Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa chatted with Variety about Archie’s motives following the attempted murder on his dad Fred.

“The first four episodes is Archie sorting through his feelings and being consumed by revenge to the point where he tells Veronica, ‘I want to kill the Black Hood. I want to be the last thing he sees,’” he shared.

But the ending violence with more violence ended with the fourth episode.

“At the end of the episode, he throws the gun in the river. To me, that sort of signals the end of Archie’s revenge quest,” the showrunner says. “Now he starts to turn towards being that hero he is going to eventually be.”

Roberto also admits that Archie “did or does have some version of PTSD,” which stemmed from seeing his dad bleeding out in the season premiere at Pop’s Chock’lit Shoppe.

Riverdale airs Wednesdays @ 8PM ET/PT on The CW.
