Grace VanderWaal Shared The Secret About That Clicking Sound on 'City Song'

Grace VanderWaal‘s debut album, Just The Beginning, came out a week ago and we don’t know about you, but it’s one of the best we’ve heard all year.

Since we’ve been listening to it non-stop, we picked up on some tendencies throughout the record — like that clicking sound on “City Song”.

Speaking with Chicago Sun Times, Grace revealed what exactly that is — her retainer!

“There’s this little clicky noise on the second verse; that was my retainer case I was clicking to the beat of the song,” she revealed.

Grace continued, opening up about how she’s still trying to find her specific sound.

“I’m still experimenting with my sound,” she says. “I honestly don’t know what I like yet.”

Grace adds, “This album is the first time where I’m actually putting true produced music behind what I’m singing. A lot of elements from different genres were pulled into the album and I think it invites everyone into my journey.”

Psst! Want to meet Grace this weekend? She’ll be having a signing event at Charming Charlie’s 5th Avenue Flagship Store in New York City from 1-4pm.
