Keiynan Lonsdale speaks on stage during the 2018 GQ Australia Men of The Year Awards held at The Star on Wednesday night (November 14) in Sydney, Australia.

The Love, Simon star and musician was joined at the event by model Lucky Blue Smith and 13 Reasons Why‘s Dacre Montgomery.

Keiynan was honored at the event as the Actor of the Year.

“Thank you so much for this honor. I’m pretty stoked to be here with my boyfriend. I’m proud to be able to be open about that,” Keiynan shared during his speech. “I’m really happy that my mum could be here. I’m the man I am today because of a powerful, powerful woman. She taught me strength, she taught me vulnerability. She taught me how to fight for your heart, and how to fight for love. That’s the power of a woman.”

He continued, “That’s actually also the power of the man, but we aren’t always taught that. I think what makes a great man is owning that we all need healing. We’ve all been through a lot. We don’t have to pretend that you’ve got it all figured out. We can all go forward, healing ourselves, and we can then heal each other. At the end of the day, we’re all human beings.”
