Norway's Princess Ingrid Alexandra Celebrates Her Confirmation in Oslo

Princess Ingrid Alexandra waves to the crowd on a balcony from the Royal Palace in Oslo, Norway over the weekend.

The 15-year-old future queen of Norway celebrated her confirmation with her family and many other royals who traveled for the special ceremony.

Among the royal guests were Ingrid’s godparents – King Felipe of Spain, and Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden – plus Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark and Prince Christian of Denmark.

According to Royal Central, the ceremony consisted of a “traditional worship with an extra prayer ceremony where the priests asked God to bless and strengthen Ingrid Alexandra through her confirmation, and she kneeled in front of the altar where the priest prayed for her and ‘told God’ that the Princess has chosen a life of Christianity. The Confirmation service is considered to be very solemn in Norway.”

As a gift for her confirmation, Princess Ingrid Alexandra received a traditional Norwegian national costume from King Harald and Queen Sonja.

Called a bunad, the costume is a reconstructed women’s costume from Aust-Telemark, and Ingrid Alexandra chose elements for the costume, and Queen Sonja took an active part in the project.
