The Gang Is Headed Back To High School On Tonight's New 'Riverdale'

Betty, Jughead and Veronica celebrate senior year at a party in this still from tonight’s new Riverdale episode.

The ep, titled “Fast Times at Riverdale High”, will be set three months after Fred Andrews’ funeral.

“I will say that the shadow Fred’s death casts is on episode 2 and honestly we’re about 10 episodes into the season and we’re still feeling that,” showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa shared with EW. “The truth is, something that like, Archie will be wrestling with that for the rest of his life, other characters less so.”

He continues, “One of the things that’s been interesting is when a tragedy like that happens, everyone grieves and then people move on at different points. But for the person who’s at the core of it, they live with it every day. We don’t pretend it didn’t happen, it’s still very much permeating Archie’s story.”

In the episode, Archie (KJ Apa) encourages Mad Dog (Eli Goree) to attend Riverdale High and join the football team, while Jughead (Cole Sprouse) meets Mr. Chipping (Sam Witwer), who offers him a spot at an elite school called Stonewall Prep.

Elsewhere, Veronica (Camila Mendes) is conflicted when information about her involvement in Hiram’s (Mark Consuelos) arrest leaks to the public and Kevin (Casey Cott) applies for a spot on the Blue & Gold to make amends with Betty (Lili Reinhart). Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) goes head to head with Mr. Honey (Kerr Smith), the school’s new principal.

Riverdale airs TONIGHT, October 16th @ 8PM ET/PT on The CW.
