What Happened In The Season Finale of 'High School Musical: The Musical: The Series'?

The episode kicks off with EJ going over Troy’s lines when Ashlyn comes in and is surprised to see he’s actually going on. She then questions who’s going on for Chad if EJ is Troy, and Carlos walks in wearing a basketball uniform.

The next scene sees Nini and Gina on stage, and then sharing a moment together backstage. Nini asks Gina for advice when there’s a very important person in the audience and you don’t want to mess up.

In the next on stage scene, Nini goes out and gets very surprised by seeing EJ in Ricky’s place as Troy Bolton. She then gets very flustered, goes off script, and covers her mic to ask him what is going on. The scene transitions into Ashlyn’s solo as Ms Darbus and Big Red excitedly turns on the spotlight for her and smiles big.

Ricky’s mom finds him out in the hall and he confronts her about bringing her new boyfriend to the show.

The music for “Bop To The Top” goes on and Seb is afraid to go on stage because his family bought out multiple rows. Carlos comforts and reassures him that he’ll do great.

Gina walks out to find Ricky in the hall and asks what he is doing, and when he tells her, she convinces him to at least go watch the rest of the show.

Nini and EJ start their scene to perform “Breaking Free”, but when Ricky walks in during the scene, Nini blanks on her lines. EJ sees Ricky and realizes what is going on, and leaves Nini on stage. She then starts singing the song, and walks over, and convinces Ricky to return to the show as Troy.

The cast all take their bows in a “We’re All In This Together” performance and give Miss Jenn her moment at the end to recite her line that was cut from the original movie.

After the show, Ricky finds Nini packing up her stuff and they talk about what’s going to happen next. When Nini goes to walk away, Ricky yells out that “I love you”. They then kiss and exchange their gifts with each other.

Ashlyn invites everyone over for a cast party at her house and asks Gina if she’s coming. When Gina responds she has to catch a flight back home, Ashlyn invites her to stay in her guest room, then gets an idea that she doesn’t say, but appears that she is going to ask Gina to live with her so she doesn’t have to leave East High.

Nina heads out into the lobby, and gets surprised by the lady from the boarding school, who she thought had left. She tells Nini that she has a gift and invites her to attend their school, starting the following month.

The stage manager then appears on screen and says, “Buckle up Wildcats, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.”

During the end credits, Big Red performs a tap routine and blows off another round of confetti at the end. Ashlyn then walks in and drops the large bouquet of flowers that he got her and the two kiss.
