Disneyland Reopening May Not Happen Until 2021 Under New Guidelines

Those looking to get the Disney holiday magic are in for some sad news.

The Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure parks likely won’t reopen until 2021, as laid out under California Governor Gavin Newsom‘s new guidelines.

On Friday (August 28), a new four-tiered color coded system was revealed, marking the guidelines of reopening by county.

“Case rates and test positivity rates will be the metrics that will determine movement within the tiers which, in terms of severity run from purple to red to orange to yellow,” Deadline reports.

Counties cannot jump more than one tier at a time, and it takes three weeks between each stage.

Disneyland is located in Orange County, Calif., which is currently in the purple stage, which has the virus considered “widespread”. During the press conference, Governor Newsom said that they were going to have a separate meeting later in the afternoon, regarding theme parks and how the new guidelines affect them.

This is just the latest setback in reopening, after it was revealed the parks wouldn’t open on the planned July 17th reopening date. Other Disney parks across the world have already reopened their gates with social distancing and COVID safety protocols in place.
