Sofia Carson Says Filming 'Songbird' Was Almost Like Live Theater

Sofia Carson is opening up a little about her new movie Songbird!

The 27-year-old actress and singer stars in the Michael Bay film alongside KJ Apa.

During a new interview with Zach Sang Show, Sofia dished on filming the movie about a pandemic during the pandemic, and teased that we might learn more soon!

“It’s the first movie to shoot during a global pandemic, in history, and they kind of set the standard for how film and TV are going to happen in this new normal,” she said. “It was Michael Bay, myself, Demi Moore, Bradley Whitford, KJ Apa and more and more really incredible cast. It took us a month and a half to shoot, and we wrapped it like this [snaps finger]. It was surreal.”

“We were on such a time crunch because of the quarantine and because of new SAG regulations and such, we had to get it done fast. Our workload during the day was much more intense,” she shared. “The movie was shot almost as if it was live theater and that there weren’t that many takes, and a lot of scenes were kind of shot back to back as if it was live, which kind of added to the intensity and how raw and real the film will end up being.”

“It was definitely an experience of a lifetime, plus the crew was really limited,” Sofia continued. “There wasn’t lighting setups, there wasn’t multiple cameras. There was our camera operator, [who] was our director of photography, Jacques, who was incredible. One camera handheld, and the director, and then me and KJ, which had most of our scenes together, so it was like live theater almost. It was so cool.”

Sofia added that it was nice to be able to finally get out of the house and do something amid the pandemic.

“Being able to just escape and have that movie, and be able to leave the house was such a privilege,” she said.
