Yara Shahidi Developing New Freeform Comedy 'Smoakland' With Mom Keri

Yara Shahidi and her mom Keri are working on bringing a new comedy series to the small screen!

It was just announced that the mother-daughter duo are developing Smoakland for Freeform through their 7th Sun Productions company, in partnership with ABC Signature.

“In case you wondering what we’ve been up to ๐Ÿ‘€ … Proud #TEAM7THSUNMOMENT,” Yara wrote on Instagram in all caps.

The new series was written by Jewel Coronel, and “centers around Oakland native Solo, the visionary of a budding cannabis company, who navigates family expectations, changing friendships, love, and her drive to break through the โ€œgrassโ€ ceiling of the oft-closed terrain of the cannabis industry for herself and her community,” according to Deadline.

Jewel will also executive produce, alongside Zahir McGhee and the Shahidis.

Back in July 2020, it was announced that Yara and Keri had signed an overall deal with ABC Studios to form 7th Sun. They will “develop and produce scripted and alternative television projects for cable, streaming and broadcast.โ€
