Fans React To 'Ice Age,' 'The Peanuts Movie' Studio Blue Sky Studios Being Shut Down

It was just revealed that Disney is shutting down Blue Sky Studios!
The Walt Disney Company acquired the animation studio when it purchased 20th Century Fox, and now, will be closing it down, Deadline reports.
“Given the current economic realities, after much consideration and evaluation, we have made the difficult decision to close filmmaking operations at Blue Sky Studios,” a Disney spokesperson said.
Disney already has two other animation studios, Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar.
Blue Sky is responsible for such movies as the Ice Age franchise, Ferdinand, Horton Hears a Who, Robots, Rio, The Peanuts Movie and Epic, as well as the most recent release, Spies In Disquise.
The studio had one film in production, Nimona, and it will reportedly be stopped and no longer be released. Disney+ is also working on an Ice Age TV series.
Blue Sky, which will close in April, had about 450 employees who will be impacted, and Disney will reportedly work with employees to try and find them positions at other internal studios.
Many fans learned of the news and took to Twitter to share that they are sad and upset that Blue Sky Studios is being shut down. Check out fan reactions below…
Gutted about Blue Sky. Feeling for all the artists there and very sad about NIMONA, a story I love, and representation SORELY needed in family films.

The news of blue sky studios shutting down makes me worry about the future of feature animation when feature is already so synonymous with Disney.

Sigh… The animation industry became a little greyer with the closing of Blue Sky. My thoughts are with everyone effected by this 💙

I'm honestly kinda sad over this. The first Ice Age movie, Robots, Rio,, the Peanuts Movie were legitimately good and I'm willing to die on that hill. And obv. Lots of animators lost their jobs over this. Sucks ass

This makes me sad. I’ve always loved Blue Sky for their short, “Bunny” which won the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film in 1998. 🐇 https://t.co/6uNcKXW73z https://t.co/GSrl9EKlA2

My heart goes out to everyone at Blue Sky. Such talented people there. Blue Sky was my first paying gig when I moved out here, and my first on-screen credit for writing (a short on the ROBOTS blu ray). I truly thought their last movie, SPIES IN DISGUISE, was one of their best.

Blue Sky was the first presentation I went to after joining the animation/illustration major here, and the Ice Age films have always had a special place in my heart so I am really bummed about the news of it being shut down!

My heart is shattered for all of the incredibly talented and passionate people of Blue Sky today. The Rio films were a huge personal inspo to draw birds, which led to my first job out of college. The Peanuts movie is one of my favorites as well. I’ll miss this pioneer studio. 💔 https://t.co/Yfew5bR2F9

I'm absolutely heartbroken and disappointed to hear that Disney is shutting down Blue Sky Studios. They made so many fun animated films and hearing they're being shut down is really upsetting. It's a major loss for the animation scene and I'm seriously not happy with this choice. pic.twitter.com/vuhcSYHImM

Seeing the news about Blue Sky shutting is down is really, really dang saddening.
I’ve been a big fan of many of their movies ever since Ice Age, many of their movies were part of my childhood, and seeing them go unexpectedly is not the news I wanted to hear. :/

i actually like ice age, i grew up with Robots and Rio is so gorgeous imo! These movies had potential and ever since the peanuts movie i was so happy they got their groove back…mannnnnnnnnnnnnn this sucks…

Plus I remember when artists from the Peanuts movie did a talk at our school & showed behind the scenes footage of how they achieved that affect. It was really inspirational & made me realize that maybe 3D -could- achieve the heavy stylized look I craved

I haven't seen all of Blue Sky's Films but I do have memories attached to them. I saw the first Ice Age film 4 times in theaters, which is the most I've ever seen a single movie in theaters. The Peanuts Movie was also great. This is sad.

I’m really not happy with Disney closing Blue Sky studios at all 😡. Blue Sky produced some really great films ( Ice Age franchise and Rio my personal favs) and it sucks to see them go. My heart goes out to all the wonderfully talented artists and animators. You are loved 🥰

This Blue Sky news is HEARTBREAKING- their movies inspired me to go for the animation industry… Praying and wishing the best for their employees and their families right now.

the blue sky news is really upsetting. corporate mergers and monopolies rot the entertainment industry from the inside out. we’re always worse off with less studios around

I'm heartbroken to hear about what happened to Blue Sky. It was my first full-time job in the industry. I have friends who were still working there. I saw stuff from Nimona and it looked amazing. I feel like it would have been their best film. I can't believe Disney did this….
— Kevin Temmer (@KevinTemmer) February 9, 2021
Such sad news. :( Blue Sky was where I first stepped into the animation industry at 21 and I owe a lot to the education I received there. Hoping the best for all those affected. Really bummed about NIMONA too. Sounded rad. https://t.co/CswdOFVTwu

Wow, so Disney just dumped Blue Sky Studios? What the fuck, Disney?
They were a fun studio! They had Ice Age and Epic and with the Peanuts Movie they showed so much potential of adapting famous cartoon styles into gorgeous computer animation!

They made some of my fav cgi films I’m so upset….the peanuts movie !!! How could u shut them down !!! They were supposed to visit my school for senior interviews in April too ,,,

I like Blue Sky. It made a few really great movies (the first Ice Age, Robots, the Peanuts movie and Spies in Disguise). But they were Illumination before Illumination. Some good ideas that got buried by poorly cast celebrities and sub par writing.

Sad to hear about Blue Sky. The Peanuts Movie is one of my favorite animated movies, so charming & creative. Give it a watch if you haven't seen it yet.
