Director Angel Manuel Soto Bringing 'Blue Beetle' To Big Screen With First Latinx DC Superhero Movie

Blue Beetle is coming to life with an all new DC Comics movie!

Angel Manuel Soto has signed on to direct the pic, which will be the first Latinx superhero movie from DC, TheWrap reports.

“It is an honor to direct Blue Beetle, the first Latino superhero film for DC,” Angel told TheWrap. “I want to sincerely thank everyone at Warner Bros. and DC for trusting me to bring Jaime Reyes to life. I can’t wait to make history together.”

Though Blue Beetle is one of the oldest comic book superheroes, the new film will focus on the 2006 version, which was introduced as a Mexican-American teenager named Jaime Reyes. “His powers come from a mysterious scarab that binds to Reyes’ spine and provides him with a powerful suit of armor around his body.”

The film is aiming to start production this fall.

If you missed it, it was recently announced that the first ever Latina Supergirl will be hitting the big screen in the upcoming The Flash movie!

The CW also recently decided not to move forward with a Wonder Girl series, which would have starred a Latina in the lead role.
