New 'Gossip Girl' Kids 'Wrestle With Their Privilege,' Showrunner Says

Fans are getting new info about the upcoming Gossip Girl revival, and they are not too thrilled!

It was just revealed that the new cast of characters will not be glorifying their wealth and exorbitant lifestyles, according to Variety.

“These kids wrestle with their privilege in a way that I think the original didn’t,” showrunner Joshua Safran shared with the publication. “In light of [Black Lives Matter], in light of a lot of things, even going back to Occupy Wall Street, things have shifted.”

“I think the first [Gossip Girl] showed a little bit of wealth porn or privilege porn, like, ‘Look at these cars, or here’s a montage of the best plated food you’ve ever seen,’” he added.

Variety also reports, that in not flaunting their privilege, the characters are taking Ubers instead of limos, and are “(mostly) not rude to service workers.”

Zoya Lott, played by Whitney Peak, is “a scholarship student at the upscale Constance Billard school, the implications of which will be explored in nearly every episode.”

After the not glorifying their wealth news came out, many people took to Twitter to express their frustration and annoyance to the fact. See some of the reactions below.
