On Thursday (April 28), Lionsgate unveiled a teaser for the upcoming movie at CinemaCon and revealed the release date, but didn’t show any actual footage of what’s been filmed thus far.

The clip showed “striking shots of icy tree branches and [an] eye-catching gold as text scrolled that reads, ‘The world will discover… who is a songbird… and who is a snake,’” according to Variety.

The film was revealed to have a theatrical release date of November 17, 2023.

In The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, we will see Coriolanus Snow (originally played by Donald Sutherland in The Hunger Games) at age 18, years before he would become the tyrannical President of Panem. Young Coriolanus is handsome and charming, and though the Snow family has fallen on hard times, he sees a chance for a change in his fortunes when he is chosen to be a mentor for the Tenth Hunger Games… only to have his elation dashed when he is assigned to mentor the girl tribute from impoverished District 12.
