Zachary Noah Piser Begins Performances as First Full-Time Asian American Evan in 'Dear Evan Hansen' On Broadway

Zachary Noah Piser makes history for Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway on Tuesday night (May 17)!

The actor is taking on the title role of Evan full-time at the Music Box Theatre, and he’s the first Asian American actor to do so.

Zachary is no stranger to Dear Evan Hansen though, as he’s been a part of productions since 2019, first playing the alternate Evan in Toronto, and has recently served as the alternate Evan on Broadway.

His taking over the title role comes during a perfect time as May is Asian American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month!

“Being the first Asian American actor to tell Evan’s story means everything to me, and I hope this milestone allows any and all AAPI folks to feel seen, heard, and valued,” he said in a statement, via People. “And to start my run in May, a month dedicated to celebrating so many parts of my identity — AAPI Heritage, Jewish Heritage, and Mental Health Awareness — is the cherry on top!”

If you remember, this actor also made history for the show, being the first Black actor to play Evan full-time!

Zachary is taking over the role from Ben Levi Ross, who returned to the show in a limited engagement following Jordan Fisher. He will then be followed by DEH North American Evan Stephen Anthony, in a four week run in August, with Sam Primack returning to the DEH Broadway stage in September.

Previously, Zachary played Boq in Wicked on Broadway.

You can catch Zachary Noah Piser as Evan in Dear Evan Hansen now through August 8th. Tickets can be found at DearEvanHansen.com!
