'Dear Evan Hansen' to Close on Broadway Following 6 Year Run

Dear Evan Hansen is set to hang up the blue polo on Broadway later this year.

It was just announced on Tuesday (June 7) that the Tony award winning musical will be closing after six years on the Great White Way.

Ben Platt opened up the show in the title role on December 4, 2016 at the Music Box Theatre, and when it closes, it will have played 1,678 regular performances and 21 preview performances.

Other stars who have played Evan include Ben‘s boyfriend Noah Galvin, Jordan Fisher, Andrew Barth Feldman and Ben Levi Ross.

Currently, Zachary Noah Piser is portraying Evan. Stephen Christopher Anthony, who is currently starring as Evan on the national tour, will assume the role for a limited Broadway engagement in August, and he’ll be followed by Sam Primack, who will close the show.

“From our earliest reading of Dear Evan Hansen in 2011, there have been two great joys that stand out above all the others (and there are many),” Stacey Mindich, the show’s Tony and Olivier Award-winning producer, shared in a statement. “One is the sweeping and soaring show itself, which never fails to make me think, cry, laugh and try to be a better mother and person. The other is watching the profound change in the audience from when they walk into the theater to when they leave. I feel grateful to have been part of bringing [Benj] Pasek, [Justin] Paul, [Steven] Levenson and [Michael] Greif’s original musical to life – which has captured the hearts of so many, impacted millions of audience members across the globe, and literally changed lives with its with its breathtaking score and its vital and universal message.”

Dear Evan Hansen will play it’s final performance on September 18th.
