“I definitely would love to be cast as Darkveil in a Marvel film, the first drag queen to make an appearance in the Marvel Universe,” Shea told Fast Company in 2021. “And she was based off of me.”
The character Darnell Wade, aka Darkveil, first appeared in Marvel comics in 2018, in Iceman #4, co-created by illustrator and writer Sina Grace.
“I would absolutely live,” Shea added about if she were to be cast. “I know in my heart of hearts, if given the opportunity, that Shea Couleé could deliver some of the most iconic fight choreography that we have seen.”
While Shea‘s casting has been revealed, it’s unknown what role she will portray.
She joins previously announced Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams/Ironheart, Anthony Ramos and Lyric Ross as Riri’s best friend.
Ironheart centers on Riri Williams, who is a brilliant teenage inventor who, in the comics, built her own version of the Iron Man suit in an MIT dorm. She eventually, in the comics, takes over as Iron Man.
