Maitreyi Ramakrishnan Had No Clue Who This Person Was Before 'Never Have I Ever'

Understandably, Maitreyi revealed she didn’t know who Never Have I Ever narrator, tennis legend John McEnroe, was.

“Well, John McEnroe is really important to Mindy [Kaling, series co-creator]. And I think it’s a great match made in heaven,” Maitreyi said. “I think he’s important to everyone. He’s important to me now that I know who he is.”

“I didn’t know [of him]. I’m not a sports kind of gal,” she added. “He’s a legend, he is. I know him as a narrating legend, not necessarily tennis.”

“Actually, funny story. On set, when I met him, I was like, ‘Hey, do you, like, still sport? Like, do you sports?’” she joked. “You know, I don’t know! Maybe he’s taking a break. I don’t know. I’m just trying to make conversation with friends. And he’s like, ‘Yeah, yeah, I do.’ And I’m like, ‘Oh, cool, cool, cool, cool. I don’t really sport so, like, guess I can’t relate.’”

“Then I asked him if he wanted to go to crafty and get cookies, and he said, ‘Yeah.’”

While John is mostly only the narrator, with a voice over, they did share a scene together at the end of season one.

Also on The Tonight Show, Maitreyi revealed her favorite thing to do with Mindy Kaling.
