Dara Reneé Opens Up About the Song She Wrote for 'HSMTMTS' - 'Here I Come'

Dara Reneé is the latest High School Musical: The Musical: The Series star to pen an original song for the series!

The actress, who plays Kourtney on the series, wrote the latest original track, “Here I Come,” for her character in this week’s episode, “Camp Prom.”

Dara follows in the footsteps of her co-stars Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett, who have each penned multiple songs for the show.

“OMGOSH YALL!!! MY ORIGINAL SONG IS OUT!! IS THIS REAL LIFE???? 😭💛🎉 This song means so much to me and I’m so grateful I had the opportunity to write about something that hits so close to home❤️ Thank you @timfederle and @zachdodes for a chance of a lifetime 🥹🌼 THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING!! NEW MUSIC REAL SOON YALL!! HERE I COME!! 😭💛🎉🎉🎉” Dara excitedly shared on Instagram.

She also opened up about writing the song and what it means to her.

“I wanted to create a song that encourages people to keep fighting through all their trials and tribulations,” Dara told Billboard, adding, “and most importantly for them to know that they are not alone in this battle. This song is about my thought process during an anxiety attack and how I push to overcome it. Ain’t nothing, not even myself gonna get in the way of this victory, HERE I COME!! Y’all, ready?”

Dara worked with songwriters Anthony M. Jones and Steph Jones on the new track.

“[This song is] one of the things that I’ve always wanted to hopefully create because it was really hard for me, especially in high school, going through that,” she told Seventeen. “So to know that other people could listen to something that I created and actually feel better is so important to me.”
