Adia – 10 Fun Facts

  • 1. I’m very passionate about informed birth, especially outside of medical industrialized complexes (MIC).
  • 2. I’ve had the honor to attend four births with the latest one having been a home birth which has inspired me to start working towards my midwifery credentials.
  • 3. If I don’t go back to school for midwifery, I’ll probably go for marine science as that was and still remains a very special field of study for me.
  • 4. Whenever I get the chance to be in the water, especially the ocean, I always try to make friends with the local fishies and marine animals.
  • 5. My dream is to open a freestanding birth center where birthing people and their families can come and stay for the last few months of pregnancy. I see acres of land with facilities like a sauna, bathhouse, sensory deprivation tanks, yoga/meditation rooms, space to play outdoors for older children of expecting parents, etc. It’s still in the works but this is something I’ve been envisioning for years so it’s bound to happen.
  • 6. From the ages of 8-13 I used to spend a lot of time catching stray cats and dogs in the city and finding homes for them.
  • 7. I like to fight. A lot. Krav maga and jiu jitsu are probably my favorites. It scares my mom a little that I stay fighting grown men considering how small I am…I love a good challenge.
  • 8. I’m learning how to cultivate bonsai right now. It’s such a beautiful way to slow down and allow your mind to go blank. All the work you do on the tree you do in silence so that you can hear the tree. If you’re like me and have to keep your hands moving but need the silence – bonsai.
  • 9. I’ll eat a whole cucumber straight because they’re just that good.
  • 10. The water crisis in America as a whole is ABSOLUTELY ridiculous. There is a man named Moses West who created an atmospheric water generator which pulls air and mechanically makes condensation that is converted into clean drinking water. For people in communities such as Flint, MI, Jackson, MS, the vast majority of First Nation reservations and places where food deserts are prevalent like my hometown Washington, DC, Moses‘ AWG is crucial and vital to the survival of many. There is so much more I want to say on this issue but to keep it short, look up the Moses West Foundation and consider donating and/or sharing. No one should ever be denied access to clean water.
