Shazam's Asher Angel Hopes For This Under New DCU Heads James Gunn & Peter Safran

Asher Angel is opening up about the future of the DC Universe.

The 20-year-old Shazam!: Fury of the Gods star recently dished on what hopes to happen now that the James Gunn and Peter Safran have been named the new heads of DCU.

See what he said inside…

“I think, in a way, Shazam did open up the DC Universe because it’s lighthearted and it’s fun,” he told ComicBook.com. “I feel like we haven’t had a movie like that in the DC Universe in a really long time. I think getting to have that makes it really special.”

Asher also called the pair a “dream team” and it “totally makes sense.”

“I remember meeting James. I went to the Suicide Squad stages in Atlanta. I met with him and he’s just a super nice, genuine, humble guy. Super passionate,” he said. “Obviously, he’s super freaking talented, but for him to team up with Peter Safran, who I think is so incredibly gifted at what he does is, it’s a dream team. To pair the two it totally makes sense. It was bound to happen.”

While Shazam has introduced more DC characters to the world, and the upcoming sequel will introduce even more, Asher hopes to “integrate with other [DC] characters, but who knows?”

If you didn’t know, Asher has a new movie coming out this week on Hulu. Check him out in the trailer for Darby and the Dead here!
