We’re up to the Bobsled, Skeleton and Luge athletes in our “Meet The Olympic Hopefuls” series for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
Luge, said to be the fastest sport on ice, is usually one or two persons on a sled, while Bobsled has up to four people. Skeleton is the counterpart to Luge, where the athlete rides the sled head first.

Meet Eddy Alvarez, Heather Richardson and Jessica Smith!
The three are all vying for spots on the U.S. Speed Skating team for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
“Any time you go to a new track, you’re always a little nervous because you don’t know what to expect,” Heather, 24, shared about the track at Sochi. “Well, now we know. We got to see exactly how it’s going to play out…It’s definitely a sea-level track, so the ice is a lot slower than where we train in Salt Lake City. The times aren’t going to be really fast at the Olympics.”
JJJ Fun Fact: Heather, 24, just got engaged to Dutch speedskater Jorrit Bergsma. Congrats to the couple!

Arielle Gold and Katie Eberling wear their Team USA gear proudly in these new shots for the USOC.
The two athletes are headed to the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics in February next year and JJJ can’t wait to see them compete in bobsled and snowboarding.
“At no point did I not feel safe,” Katie recently told the Chicago Tribune about the heightened security measures in place around the games, since the Boston Marathon bombings. “There was a huge security presence. It was ten-fold what we see at the World Cup races and the world championships.”
She added, “(Olympic) visitors are going to have to be aware of their surroundings and be smart, but I have full faith we are going to be protected and taken care of.”

Meryl Davis and Charlie White stand back to back in this new Team USA portrait shot in Los Angeles last week.
The 26- and 25-year-old Ice Dance world champions are collaborating with DWTS‘ Derek Hough for their Olympic routines.
Derek wrote in a blog for TVGuide, “I also started working on a very special routine that’s not for the show. I’m choreographing a number for our world champion ice dancers Meryl Davis and Charlie White to perform at the Olympics next year. They graciously asked me to do it and how could I say no? It’s truly an honor and they’re amazing. They won silver in Vancouver, are five-time U.S. champions and two-time world champions.”
He added, “If you’re not familiar with them, I highly recommend you check out some of their routines. They actually taught me a new move that I might have to do on the show. It’s a trick and Kellie would be able to do it. Maybe you’ll see it in a few weeks!”
