Adam Rippon is hanging up his figure skates – at least competition wise.
The 29-year-old Olympic medalist, and recent DWTS: Athletes champ, took to social media to confirm that he won’t be returning to the competition circle – something that he’s said before, but just made official.
After taking part in CBC News’s Note to Self series, where celebrities write messages to their younger selves, Adam added a few notes about leaving the competition ice behind.
“I’m traveling (what feels like almost every day), working all the time, enjoying every second of my new life, and feel so lucky for all the opportunities I’ve been given,” Adam wrote in the Twitter thread. “Thank you for rooting for someone like me. I will always root for you too. ❤️”
He added, looking at his fans who hoped he’d change his mind, “One last thing: If you thought I was going to continue competing after the Olympics I will have a drink for you tonight because you are out of your mind crazy and I admire your optimism and love you with my full heart.”
I love my skating family so much and am so grateful to everyone I have met. I have been and can’t wait to continue to cheer for everyone ON AND OFF the ice! I love you, guys.
One last thing: If you thought I was going to continue competing after the Olympics I will have a drink for you tonight because you are out of your mind crazy and I admire your optimism and love you with my full heart.
Speaking with TV Guide, the 28-year-old figure skater revealed that he was “really looking forward to seeing all of these little kids perform their frickin’ hearts out.”
Just like their sister show, Dancing With The Stars Juniors watches as 12 young stars perform and learn new ballroom dances, competing to win the first ever DWTS Juniors title and trophy.
“I think more than anything you want somebody who you know is going to make the kids feel comfortable, who can make them laugh, but at the same time be honest with them and motivate them,” Adam shared about sitting on the judging table. “I hope that I’m able to do that on the show.”
He adds, “I feel that what I’ve learned from working with kids on the ice is that the best thing I can do is talk to them like they’re on my level and make them feel comfortable but also keep it real…you grow an attachment to the kids as it goes on because you see that they love what they’re doing and you see all that hard work. So it’s going to be a really, really good show.”
Adam adds that the young competitors blew all his previous expectations away when he first saw them perform.
“I think there’s a fear like, ‘Can they do it? Can they handle the pressure?’ Because it can be a lot. And they’ve not only stepped up to the plate but they’ve completely surpassed my expectations.”
Dancing With The Stars Juniors premieres on Sunday, October 7th @ 8PM ET/PT on ABC.

The 24-year-old Dancing With the Stars pro dancer met up with her former partner, Adam Rippon, for the event, along with Sarah Hughes.
“To see her out here on the Dancing With the Stars stage…at 12 years old!” Jenna exclaimed. “All of them were best friends and loved their lives. It was so sweet.”
She adds, “When people would get eliminated, they were more sad about leaving their friends than actually getting eliminated from Dancing With the Stars Juniors. It was so cute.”
“I can’t wait for people to watch the show because I think they are going to fall in love with these little babies.”
The Dancing With the Stars champs had dinner at Craig’s restaurant on Friday night (August 10) in West Hollywood, Calif.
