Alex & Sierra Have Broken Up -- Both As a Couple & As a Musical Duo

Alex & Sierra Have Broken Up -- Both As a Couple & As a Musical Duo

We have some devastating news today.

Alex & Sierra, the musical duo that won the U.S. X Factor in 2013, have broken up both as a band and as a couple.

“Though we didn’t tell the public, our romantic relationship ended over a year ago,” they wrote on their joint Twitter account today. “We’ve arrived at a point where it feels better to branch out rather than continue making music together.”

“No band lasts forever,” they continued. “Our love for you will certainly last forever. We have a lot of love for each other and ALWAYS will, and we are the real people behind the screen you’re looking at, so keep that in mind before you say anything and please respect our privacy.”

The duo penned an Instagram caption several months ago urging their fans to spend more time enjoying their music and less time “shipping” them as a couple, and those words now carry more resonance than ever.

We wish all the best for Alex Kinsey and Sierra Deaton, and we hope they find their way as solo artists.

Alex & Sierra Reveal All The Ups & Downs of 'X Factor'

Alex & Sierra Reveal All The Ups & Downs of 'X Factor'

Alex & Sierra are getting real about their time on X Factor in a new podcast, revealing all the ups and downs of the show that they won back in 2013.

The duo — Alex Kinsey and Sierra Deaton — dished about how they got on the show and why they auditioned in the first place, as well as being dropped from their label later on.

Auditioning for anything can be a bit daunting and when asked about if Simon Cowell had said that they weren’t cut out for a musical career, Alex and Sierra pretty much had the best answer: It wouldn’t have mattered.

“No, that wouldn’t have been the case,” Alex says. “It would’ve been okay, but it wouldn’t have hurt my feelings.”

“It would’ve hurt my feelings,” Sierra adds, “but I wouldn’t have stopped [trying to pursue music]. Music is subjective. There can be people who just a few who despise your music and a hundred more who love it.”

The duo later adds that they are still grateful for the show, despite it’s Hunger Games like quality.

“I think we’re both really grateful that we did the show, with all the negatives that come with it,” Sierra says. “We’re constantly battling the stigmas of being kids from a reality TV show…but we’re doing better than we ever thought we could have.”

Alex & Sierra Open Up About The Impact Their Fans Have Had On Them

Did you get a chance to meet Alex & Sierra during their west coast tour?

The couple — Alex Kinsey and Sierra Deaton — opened up about meeting fans and didn’t actually realize how much of impact they really had on them.

“As we meet people on the road, and the more intimate meetings we have with people, we start to realize just how much they know about us, but we don’t know anything about them,” Alex shared.

He adds, “It’s fun getting to know people and getting to know who listens to our music and who cared about the show and who cares about us. It’s interesting…we have people from 13 year-old girls, and even younger — children as fans — and then we have had 80-year-old couples come in for our meet and greets too.”
