Olympic Ice Dancer Maia Shibutani Does Her Own Performance Makeup (Exclusive)

Maia and Alex Shibutani will hit the Olympic ice once again tonight at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics in South Korea.

Earlier this week, JJJ shared a ton of fun facts about the sibling team going for gold, but did you also know that Maia also does her own glam?

Unlike actors, singers, and models, she doesn’t have a glam squad to help her out, so Maia does it all on her own.

She loves K-beauty products and she’s picked up specific tricks along the way with winged eyeliner being her specialty.

Maia recently filmed a cute “get ready with me” beauty video for the ShibSibs YouTube and you can check it out below!

Be sure to watch Maia and Alex in the short dance competition TONIGHT @ 8PM ET/PT on NBC.

Ice Dancers Maia & Alex Shibutani Made History at Figure Skating Team Event at Olympics

Ice Dancers Maia & Alex Shibutani Made History at Figure Skating Team Event at Olympics

You might have missed it, but earlier this week, Maia and Alex Shibutani made history too.

After performing during the figure skating team event at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, the 26- and 23-year-old siblings became the first ice dance team of Asian descent to win a medal.

“Last night was a dream that became a reality. [Maia] and I have worked so hard for this! Proud to be the first ice dance team of Asian descent to win a medal at the [Olympics],” Alex wrote in a touching Instagram. “When we started skating together, [Maia] and I didn’t see any teams on the ice that looked like us. There weren’t too many sibling teams either.”

“Being so ‘different’ could have been a warning sign… but we were 9 and 12 years old and didn’t see ourselves as ‘different’. We were just having a blast skating together. Throughout our career (14 years and counting), [Maia] and I have had to, and will continue to push past stereotypes, labels, doubters, and cynics.”

“We have become successful BECAUSE we are siblings and family. Not in spite of that fact. We have challenged ourselves to grow, innovate, and embrace what makes us different from other teams BECAUSE our differences are what make us unique.

“When someone tells you that you can’t do something or that your success will be limited because of how you look, or who you are, keep moving forward. Set yourself apart by finding a way to utilize your strengths. Never stop believing in yourself.

“Believe in your dreams and surround yourself with people who nurture and believe in your dreams as much as you do. Sometimes the journey can be lonely, but fortunately, [Maia] and I have always had each other.

“You don’t have to look like anyone else. You don’t have to be, or skate like anyone else. You don’t have to fit the mold or follow the path that everyone else is on. Just find, and be yourself.”

Team USA Figure Skaters Celebrate Winning The Bronze Medal at Olympics with Epic Selfie

Team USA Figure Skaters Celebrate Winning The Bronze Medal at Olympics with Epic Selfie

There are regular group selfie pics, and then there are Team USA selfie pics and the US Figure Skating Olympic team has one of the best!

Ice dancer Alex Shibutani snapped the epic shot of the (almost the) whole team after winning the bronze medal at the team event over the weekend in South Korea at the Olympics — and it was quickly shared by the entire team on social media.

Bradie Tennell captioned it, “Squad goals”, and we definitely have to agree.

Nathan Chen, Adam Rippon, Mirai Nagasu, pairs skaters Alexa Scimeca Knierim and Chris Knierim, and Alex‘s sis and ice dance partner Maia Shibutani are all featured in the photo.

“I’m just so proud of this entire team,” Maia shared afterwards. “It was so special for us. This is the first team event that Alex and I were a part of. To have this experience at the Olympic Games, to come away with a medal for our country and for each other, I think we’ll come into the individual event with so much more confidence.”

Alex & Maia Shibutani Reveal Why They Didn't March in Winter Olympics 2018 Opening Ceremony

Alex & Maia Shibutani Reveal Why They Didn't March in Winter Olympics 2018 Opening Ceremony

Alex and Maia Shibutani are opening up about why they chose to skip out on the 2018 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony held in Pyeongchang, South Korea, on Friday (February 9).

The ice dancers and siblings took to Twitter to explain their absence to fans.

“@MaiaShibutani and I didn’t march in the #OpeningCeremony,” Alex captioned the photo of the two below. “We missed being with our @TeamUSA teammates, but it was important for us to get good rest before we start competing. We still got into our uniforms and took pics with our friends before they left for the Olympic Stadium.”

“Photos from last night!” Maia added on her own Twitter. “@AlexShibutani and I didn’t attend the #OpeningCeremony so that we could prepare for our competition, but we took some pictures with our @TeamUSA teammates before they went to the stadium! 😊❤️🇺🇸 #TeamUSA #WinterOlympics.”

See all of their photos below, and be sure to check out JJJ‘s 7 things you need to know about the duo.

Olympic Ice Dancers Alex & Maia Shibutani: 7 Things You Absolutely Should Know

One of the biggest events at the Winter Olympics is figure skating and if you’re like us, are amazed at what all the athletes can do on the ice.

What we’re even more impressed by? How Ice Dancers and siblings Alex and Maia Shibutani make it look so easy!

If you follow Alex and Maia on social media at all (if you’re not, why not?!), you know how much training goes into their sport and how they’re possibly the coolest siblings around.

But, what don’t you know about them? That’s what JJJ‘s here for.

Before they left for Korea, Alex and Maia sat down with us to dish out some fun facts about themselves that will make you root for them even more.

Like, Alex is a HUGE Boston sports fan. He was actually born there and roots for all the teams — Celtics, Bruins, Red Sox, and Patriots. When he has free time, he always tries to watch games on TV, too.

Alex and Maia also love going to the movies, it helps them unwind after a full day of being on the ice.

What kinds of movies, you ask? Well, Maia loves Marvel movies and Alex loves Star Wars. They always try to go to the movie theater within the first week to avoid hearing spoilers. LOL!

Meryl Davis & Charlie White's Decision To Not Compete in 2018 Olympics Took Over Three Years

Meryl Davis & Charlie White's Decision To Not Compete in 2018 Olympics Took Over Three Years

Meryl Davis isn’t the one to make rash decision — especially when it comes to her career as an Olympic ice dancer.

So when she and partner Charlie White announced that they won’t be trying to defend their gold medal at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, you need to know that it took them a long time to get to that point.

“It isn’t so black and white,” she shared in a new interview. “Charlie and I took until about a month and a half, two months ago to decide for sure to announce that we weren’t going to go back to the Olympics.”

That’s over three years of weighing options and going through all their pro and cons lists.

Meryl adds, “For us, it really is a sort of intangible feeling…We took that time, and were sort of blown in the direction of new adventures.”

And adventures there are…when Meryl isn’t teaching young kids learn to skate through the Figure Skating in Harlem and Figure Skating in Detroit programs, she’s working on her anthropology degree, and next up? Stars on Ice!

Meryl is pictured below at the Figure Skating in Harlem event in NYC with Alex and Maia Shibutani, Nathan Chen and Ashley Wagner.
