Gracie Gold, Adam Rippon, Maia & Alex Shibutani Lead US Team To Worlds Competition in Boston

Gracie Gold, Adam Rippon, Maia & Alex Shibutani Lead US Team To Worlds Competition in Boston

The 2016 U.S. National Figure Skating team for the upcoming Worlds competition is looking insanely good!

The figure skaters, who competed this past weekend at the 2016 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in St. Paul, Minnesota and are headed to Boston for the 2016 World Figure Skating Championships are: Gracie Gold, Polina Edmunds, Ashley Wagner (ladies), Adam Rippon, Max Aaron, Nathan Chen (men), Tarah Kayne and Danny O’Shea and Alexa Scimeca and Chris Knierim (pairs), Maia and Alex Shibutani, Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue, and Madison Chock and Evan Bates (ice dance).

“The international scene is so strong and it’s getting stronger every single year and I think that it is never a question of whether or not the U.S. ladies are capable of being on that podium; it’s more a question of when we’re going to step up to that challenge,” Ashley shared about the particularly competitive ladies competition.

She added, “This year is going to be about going out there and nailing those triple-triple combinations, nailing those technical marks, performing the hell out of those programs. That is what’s going to get us onto the world podium, and that is a lot to ask of one person, but I think we’re definitely capable of putting that out.”

The 2016 World Figure Skating Championships will be held from March 28th to April 3rd.

Figure Skater Polina Edmunds Wows During Short Program; Tops Gracie Gold At US National Championships 2016

Figure Skater Polina Edmunds Wows During Short Program; Tops Gracie Gold At US National Championships 2016

Polina Edmunds wows on the ice during the short program at the 2016 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championship on Thursday (January 21) at Xcel Energy Center in St Paul, Minn.

The 17-year-old figure skater topped Gracie Gold, Tyler Pierce, Ashley Wagner and Mirai Nagasu for the top spot, with 70.19 points.

“I just really wanted to feel comfortable on the ice and show the judges how beautiful this program is,” she shared after her skate. “There’s always pre-competition hype and buzz, and I don’t really pay attention to it. Of course I’ve never had a chance to be in this position before, so I’m really excited and happy that I’m finally here. But really, I know that it comes down to who skates the best on the ice, and I’m glad what I put down today was my best and that I was rewarded for it.”

In the pairs competition, Tarah Kayne and Danny O’Shea topped the leaderboard with 69.61, ahead of defending champs Alexa Scimeca and Christopher Knierim and Marissa Castelli and Mervyn Tran in third.
