The duo did their best Paso Doble set to “Hora Zero” by Rodrigo y Gabriela, which earned them 27 points!

“For our dance, Mark and I are doing an Edward Scissorhands-themed paso doble,” Alexa wrote in her People blog. “Because Edward is not an intense character, this is the first week Mark is taking a backseat and letting me step up and be the intense one in the routine.”

The 27-year-old actress and pro partner Mark Ballas earned 30 points for their Cha Cha and were in jeopardy at the end of the show — but we are SO GLAD they’ll be back next week!

Alexa PenaVega goes dark and dramatic for her Tango with Derek Hough on Dancing With The Stars on Monday night (October 12).
The switch-up team earned 40 points for their performance — the first perfect score of the season!
The next day, Alexa reunited with her original partner, Mark Ballas, and was treated to a big hug from him and a bouquet of red roses from a fan.
“WHATTTTTT?!! I cannot even begin to explain tonight. It still doesn’t feel real!!! @derekhough THANK YOU for pushing me and encouraging me all week. Alexa PenaVega and Derek Hough absolutely kill it during their Dancing With the Stars routine on Monday night (October 12) in Hollywood.
The temporarily-paired duo did the Tango for Switch-Up Week, set to “Pompeii” by Bastille, which earned them a total of 40 points! Judge Carrie Ann Inaba even gave them a standing ovation before their perfect score was announced.
“This week, I’m paired with Derek instead of Mark [Ballas]. Their styles are very different as to how they teach. But I feel like we could not have asked for a better switch up. It has been such an easy transition,” Alexa wrote in her People blog.
She added, “Derek is very, very sweet. He was just telling me, ‘I’m normally way more fun but I’m just drilling this stuff into you and I only have one week so I’m just trying to teach you as fast as I can.’ I was like, ‘I’m having a great time!’”
